I didnt see a thread for it, so i created one

Got it last night for PS3, definately feels like they put alot into the game. Feels overall different from RnD 3.. Not typical of EA. Usually they just rebrand a game with a new number. IE Madden, etc....

I really like the in between round trainer system. no longer am i going back and forth on the analog sticks just to get a little ahead. its kinda makes playing better an incentive.

What do you all think?

I'll be picking mine up after work today. It seemed like a lot of people didn't like the demo, but I thought it was good. A lot of complaints came from the fact that they removed the "button-mashing" controller configuration and forced you to use the analog sticks to throw punches. I always thought the button-mashing config was a bit cheap

exactly what im talking about. I have a guy i work with, who completely dominates people in rnd 3 because he uses the direction pad and mashes away. he says he wont buy Rnd 4 if it doesnt use that scheme.. go figure

i enjoy 4 much more than i did 3. just seems like they slowed the pace down to be more like a real boxing fight versus the ups and downs of Rnd 3.

one thing i gripe at right now is, when you start body punching, the opponent backs up very quickly. and there is no run button that i cna think of right now to catch up when they back pedal.

2nd gripe. when the opponent ties up everytime you get him to the position where your gonna knock him down. the period where he's dased.

Gamestop is doing a trade in 3 get this free deal and a bunch of the games on the list are from the best buy $10 sale or cheap target games. I traded in $30 worth of games and picked up FN4 last night for free. I'll give it a shot this weekend

I feel completely opposite.. To me, the A-sticks feel wonky, imprecise. I much prefer the buttons.. I don't get the "mashing" thing, I always know what punch I want to throw before I press the button.. Randomly smashing on buttons isn't any different than furiously diddling the A stick when it comes down to it.. Your boxer is going to get tired, and not land too many punches (unless the opponent doesn't know how to block). If the game attempts to add difficulty by using a control scheme that misinterprets the users input, then that is pretty chicken sh-- IMO.

To me its a control issue.. I want to throw a right to the head, I press a button and it happens. With the A sticks, it may be a jab, it may be a hook, etc.. I dont see that as adding challenge, I see it as the game not doing what I want it to.

At least keep the option in there, as they did with RD3.

Just like (some of) the wii games that force you into a control scheme that doesn't work well, I'm going to give this one a pass.

I like it a lot more than the demo, feels like they improved on a bunch of little things that bugged me in the demo. The control scheme doesn't bother me much. I did like the buttons, and I agree they should have kept the option, but I have no trouble using the sticks. I can throw the punches just as easy as before, only took a couple matches to get used to it. The create a boxer is nice, especially since you upload photos of the boxers face. It's a good way to get around some of the greedy assholes who aren't in the game because they wanted too much money.

The controls suck. Graphics are great and the game play is probably good too if you can get by with the sucky controls. This is a game that needs project natal or at least the Wii with motion plus.

Even if I could get the controls to work worth a shit it's just not fun as it would be with natal or even the Wii motion controls.

Same issue with Tigerwoods golf on the Xbox, boring, no immersion in the game as there is with the Wii version.

awesome graphics. undecided if i like controls or not.
not sure if i want to buy it or not either, i played demo and felt it may get repetitive. MGS4 will probably be my next purchase before i consider this one.

i dont see what the big deal with controls are..they just took a small thing out. they'll probaly put it back due to all the whining. I mean they took button mashing out, but since EA is a huge company, they just see $$$ signs. The game feels great, and i enjoy playing single player much more with FN4 vs FN3(which i had on ps2 then on p3)

So, everybody played FN rounds 1 thru 3 without using the sticks? What's the point? That was the selling point for me with the game originally. It's much more fluid than mashing buttons.

I too would love to play the next version of this with Natal.

I played R3 w/ sticks and thought it was great. I think they really butchered the controlls for this one. Things just don't feel right and I'm no longer throwing the punches I meant to.

Yep, I noticed this in the demo, too, and canceled my order. I loved the stick controls in FN3, but FN4 felt random, sluggish, and imprecise. Screw that.

I've always used the sticks and yea I was playing it last night and it was throwing punches I didn't mean to and it would still throw punches after I stopped. It seems like it really faster paced as well. Punches are much faster than in previous games.

Button punches need to come back. This whole stick only thing is silly. It is not very accurate and really offers nothing over buttons. At least in FNR3 each punch could be given less or more power with the stick, as opposed to the buttons.

The CPU is super cheap and blocks with extremely high and unfun accuracy, yet is really stupid and will fall for the same r-upper haymaker over and over and over and over. It also has NEVER broken a clinch from me. Another problem I have with it is that some of them seem to never punch unless I punch first which gets really frustrating.

Some of the mini games are OK while others are just stupid hard to be worth doing manually and it's simply better to do the auto-trainer.

Compared to UFC the career mode is a waaaay better design though. I stopped playing UFC simply because of how slow and boring the training, fight scheduling, instant knockouts that happen way too often, and super crappy retarded design of the saving system that feels necessary to pop up "checking hd"........"saving game"........"game saved"........"checking hd'........."saving fighter".........."fighter saved"........ Sorry that's a little off topic but I HATE IT!! AHHHH

Totally underwhelming.
While the graphics are step forward technically, they just seem far less organic to me than FNR3.
Maybe they are just diving into the uncanny valley, I'm not sure.
Also, I'm not a huge fan of the gameplay alterations.
Sad, every iteration of the series to this point had been an unquestioned step forward.
At least Tyson is a hoss

I just bought a used Xbox 360 to play this game and other sports games since PC no longer gets them. Control can be imprecise if you don't put the time in and learn them. I still throw body shots when I want to throw head shots etc. But I like it overall. It seems much more realistic than any other boxing game I have played. It is getting challenging on the pro difficulty level. Some of the AI players don't punch a lot but a couple of them have so far (only 12 fights). You can get KO'd with 1 punch but it happens rarely. To prevent the AI from tying you up you have to push it away and/or keep punching. I don't think button mashing would get you far in this game as your stamina would drain quickly. Maybe on GOAT level it would work. lol

I have about 25 fights in career mode now, rank is 8. It's on Pro difficulty. I'm doing fine, won 24 of the fights. Jermain Taylor shows up in the list of fights to schedule.. So I pick him and get absolutely rocked like never before. I look at his stats and he has 100 in almost every catagory?!?! I'm still in the 70s/80s and so are most other fighters I fight.

Surely this can't be right?

So what the general verdict on this game? I think it's been getting decent reviews besides the changes to the controls. I've played 1-3, should I be getting 4? Or is this a renter.

Just try the demo. If you can't stand the controls then you won't like the game on the whole. If you like them, then you'll still enjoy the game.

Free DLC is coming to Fight Night Round 4 later this summer and will include a new training gym, new boxer customizations, and new gameplay settings. Additionally, another piece of DLC will drop in September that will add face button controls to the game.

What are people's opinions now that it has been out for awhile?

I'm pretty addicted to it, although to save myself frustration, I auto-train. 2 or 3 training sessions before fights seem to be working well for me. I am on my second legacy (first one I did 1 training per fight and moved up too fast) and I am now 11(11)-0-0 (on the default pro difficulty). I don't see that pace happening for much longer, but overall I am having a great time.

I was bummed about the no face buttons (which would probably make training much easier) but I have grown used to the total punch control and can throw the punch I want most of the time.

The announcing is pretty decent, except for when Teddy Atlas goes off on a long winded tangent (CARS ARE COMING!)

I think that getting up after getting knocked down is a little too difficult, but I try not to let that happen much so whatever.

One thing that I exploited in round 3 was the TKO. Pound someone's right eye until the ref stops the fight. I haven't had that happen once yet (which is good) but I'd like to see the blood when the announcer says "his nose is bleeding".

Overall, great looking game and really fun to play. The scoring sometimes leaves me with question marks, but so far I haven't lost a decision in either legacy.

I haven't done multiplayer yet but I've read that punch spamming is a problem and it gets much less realistic, so I've stuck with single player for now.

That ends my random thoughts about the game.

in response to Jack Ryan....i totally agree, getting up is way to hard compared to round 3.. you get to the middle but oh no...your guy goes all the way to the opposite direction yay...i play 1 bout onlnie, and all it was the guy body punching. apparently the guys dont get as winded body punching.
