Here's a better analogy than what people have been throwing out there. An NFL quarterback is always going to throw some incomplete passes, but a good NFL QB still manages to make it through some games without throwing an interception.

Yes she does. I believe she was in the Champions on Ice tour or the Stars on Ice tour...something like that.

Are you using this in a pejorative context as to imply that professionals are more capable than amateurs?

I see the word used like this often as though being amateur means you're not capable of being professional. Many of the best in many industries are amateurs, and to me the status represents a purer pursuit of excellence as the motivation is intrinsic desire and not some form of compensation.

The "semi sport" has gotten worse and worse. It's become a thing of whoever can jump w/o falling wins. Gone are win artistic merit counts. The jap girl that one did the same spin 4 friggin times in her program.

The ice in turino sucked. If you did pay attention there were many of the top mens, womens, pairs and ice dancing people to fall.

Now imagine compressing that 8 hours into 4 minutes, having an audience of millions, and having to perform insanely difficult physical tasks (which are HARDER than mental tasks under pressure!)

The fact of the matter is, they could easily put together a 4-minute mistake-free program that looked impressive. However, it wouldn't win, because it wouldn't be quite technical enough or have enough jumps for the judges. So, they push their limits, and try stuff that they might screw up on, in order to get enough points to win.

oh yeah, and don't forget they're 16, dude.
