In case this helps anyone else out there, my newly assembled computer has had several problems.
config:
FX-55
2 gig of OCZ 3200 revision 2 platinum
A8N-sli deluxe
Western digital raptor (SATA), seagate barracuda (SATA), WD protege (IDE) hard drives
Plextor DVD burner
Audigy 2Zs sound card
2 ASUS 6600gt video cards.
Originally, I could not get several of the motherboard devices to install drivers (PCI memory bridge etc).
After flashing my bios with the betain an attempt to fix this, the computer would not even boot.
I reinstalled the OS and managed to get a boot, first installing the 3 NVIDIA drivers that came with the motherboard CD. Bad move-the computer would not boot again.
After my second installation, I carefully went down my list of unistalled devices, installing drivers one-byone and rebooting every time. Sure enough, by process of elimination, and my final lockup tonight, the NVIDIA IDE managment driver on the installation CD emerged as the culprit.
I hope this helps someone. I'm off to reformat and reinstall the OS one more time, carefully avoiding the damn thing. Safe mode won't even work after having loaded it.
