after a bad shutdown of XP, during the checkdisk I got a message:
windows replaced bad clusters in file blah of name (null)
where blah was the file name. would this imply that the file is now corrupt, or what? what causes this?
the checksum on the file does not match up with the metafiletable if you are using NTFS. XP did not complete updating a file when it crashed. another process prevented the kernel to write to the filesystem.
