s it me being stupid, or is the file sharing in WinXP very stupid?
I'm having huge problems sharing files.
Between to WinXP boxes, it's no problem. I just right click the folder I want to share and share it. I then go to the other WinXP rig and I can just go into the shared folder. Just the way it works between two Windows 98 systems.
But sharing between Win98 and WinXP is a whole different matter. It seems like you have to create a user on the XP box, and then log in as that user on the Win98 box. So, I tried that, but it doesn't work. I can't enter the shared folder from the Win98 box. I can see the folder, but when I try to open it, it sais I don't have permission. Do you have to log in to a domain to make it work? I have just created a workgroup, "Home" and the computers use 192.168.0.x. The folder is located on a NTFS partition, but Win98 should be able to read the shared folder still, right?
So, how do I share a folder in WinXP, and make it available to Win9x computers on the network?
Also, is it possible to share the folder to everyone on the network, without creating a user on the XP box?
Say I'm on a LAN for example, and want to share a folder to everyone on the network. I don't want to tell everyone that they have to log out, and then log in as some other user. It must be possible to share the folder to everyone, because you can do that in Win98.
