File transfer to/from Android phone using PC

I want to be able to connect to my Android phone from my PC and send files to the ANdroid device. Ya, laugh at me all you want about leaving BB10. Atleast that phone did this out of the box and my phone could be on the other side of the planet. So here I go on my miserable downgrade to Android.

These seem like some viable solutions.

As a bonus, find me a solution that doesn't have malware. I'm throwing darts at this point.

Yes, I am angry. It is almost 2016 and Android can not do this out of the box?

My phone (galaxy note5) has a PC software suite that can do wired or wifi file transfers. Just install USB drivers and the software from samsung. launch the app on the phone and on the computer, done.

I generally go for wifi because my phone has USB2 and my wifi is ~500mbps.

I really don't think the vast majority of posters here, Andriod and/or iOS would consider Android a "downgrade".

Perhaps checking your attitude at the door would lead to more participation in your thread.

That being said, what's so hard?

I've used Google Drive for years, works fine.

I just plug my Android phone into my PC, and I can drag and drop whatever I want between them.

I'm assuming OP wants a wireless solution though. What's wrong with Google Drive or Dropbox or any other cloud based solution?

More details OP.

There's a bazzilion ways of transferring files to an Android phone. How, exactly, would you like to do it?

And how have you tried so far?

I wish phone manufacturers would get their heads out of their butts and just make it so that when you connect a phone to a computer it just acts as a USB mass storage device, and that's it. No proprietary BS. After reading all the hoops I have to jump through to get it to work in Linux, I decided to just setup an FTP server on the phone, also have an FTP client. To transfer files I just turn on the FTP server, then FTP in from my computer and grab the files. Works pretty nice actually, that I totally forgot about the idea of even connecting it to USB.

That's exactly how every android phone I've ever used has worked.

Airdroid

AirDroid allows you to access and manage your Android phone or tablet from Windows, Mac or the Web, wirelessly, for free. Transfer files between your devices, and share files to your friends.

Better focused: Calls, SMS, and the app notifications you allowed, mirrored to the large computer screen you are focusing on.
Better equipped: Type with full physical keyboard and control with a mouse. Transfer things faster without looking for a cable. Better equipments, better life.
Better connected: Control your Android from computer and use any apps on computer, like WhatsApp, WeChat, and Line. (root required for some devices)

It's called Wifi File Explorer Pro. It's is the second app that goes on any Android device of mine after ES File Explorer.

You could just pull out the SDcard and... Oh yeah. That's right, removable storage is unnecessary with the cloud...

i'd love an sd card slot.

but i really like vanilla android.

none of the nexus phones i have owned (gnex, and nexus 5) have ever had an sd slot.

Use PTP instead of MTP, transfers are much faster. I've been able to switch modes on the fly for a good while now.

I use Solid Explorer's FTP server, though. OP doesn't get around much if they think this is a difficult task.

I don't necessarily want the same image in multiple places. I might want o move a bunch of stuff to my phone and delete it on my laptop or move it on my laptop.

For now, I am living off a tethered USB connection.

When people drive a Mazda for 10 years and never try out the Lincoln, they'd probably be adamant that he Mazda is better even though they never test drove a Lincoln.

I'll try out Google Drive later today.

I've done Dropbox and am thoroughly unimpressed.

For anything like a couple pictures, I will use bluetooth. Anything larger and I have a meenova sd card reader to copy files to. I can also easily copy things from a network drive to the phone, so I may use that instead of digging out the card reader. Done with the usb2 cable mess.

That's a poor justification for a poor attitude.

Especially when it's painfully obvious how little you tried to actually do what you want.

So if you're tethered to your laptop what's stopping you from deleting stuff or moving stuff on your laptop?

What are you trying to do?

Push stuff to your phone?
Push stuff to your laptop?
Sync stuff over all your things?
Are you wanting to do it over wireless?

Details. They are important.

Every "android sucks" thread I see is user lack of knowledge or lack of willingness to acquire knowledge. Which is why person has problem in the first place.

Cant transfer files from android to windows? really? lol

We all know its an incredibly complicated procedure. Clearly the fault of android.

The common solution: To transfer.via USB, connect the phone's USB cable to the PC. After plugging in, select "USB Mass Storage" when prompted pn the phone. To transfer files to/from the pc, browse to the new USB virtual drive, find the files/folders and copy/paste away! For third party tool: Android File Transfer
