Files delete themselves immediately after downloading

Hey thanks for reading my topic!

Starting several months ago, I noticed that my downloads seemed to not be downloading. When I looked further into it I could not find any articles that fixed my problem by doing a google search.
What exactly happens is-
I download a file...doesn't matter what type or to what directory I save it to...I even tried saving to a Flash drive and the file appears for a split second in the directory, and then vanishes
I did a computer search and it does not find the file anywhere, so I do not believe it is a relocating issue. They are not being moved to my recycle bin either; just straight up disappear never to be seen again.
This is very frustrating as I am a college student and can't download the files I need for some of my classes!!
I thought i would be able to have the skills to fix this myself but I have tried countless times with no avail
I tried restoring original settings in IE and Firefox; tried uninstalling AVG (some forums said this could be a problem) and still the problem persists!
I do not believe the problem is a virus.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Many files may be placed as a temp file and deleted when no longer needed

Depending on the download settings (yours and/or the providers), the temp file can be moved, loaded into memory (then deleted), renamed and/or left alone.

Test with a different browser and/or system going after the same file. That should pin point where the problem is.

Also check your system for malware that may be intercepting the finshed download

I've noticed that some internet security programs will move the downloaded file to quarantine somewhere. I used to have Bitdefender do that to one of the WoW patch file that I was trying to download.
