Files have no extension

DL some audio files from WoW . They have no association and no file type (I have show file extensions turned on). I can not play them in Windows media player but vlc does play them, however I cant associate that as a default. Every time I open the file I have to re choose VLC.

Any idea what the heckl?

Renaming to .mkv breaks the file and .mp3 wont open at all.

In VLC, you can go to Tools>Codec to learn which codec is being used, this will usually reveal the file type, afaik.

Says vorbis, if I add .ogg it plays but its cut off like when its named mkv so it truncates the audio clip.

Maybe try .oga. Shouldn't make a difference, but it can't hurt to try.

Ill give it a shot. If not anyone willing to try to get the file and figure it out? Its on wowhead so its not spammy or dangerous.

Ah, thanks for that! I can confirm that they are OGG and at least playback with Foobar is not chopped at all. Are you needing it to work in VLC?

I was hoping to find a way to convert it into a file that can be played on anything. Like my phone or sent to people.
