Fille association

I have two files with the extension jpg and one with pcx. When I double click on these files I get the following message: "Windows cannot find PSP.EXE. The funny thing is that the jpg files were created using Adobe Photo Deluxe and were saved as jpg files. I can open these two jpg files from Photo Deluxe with no problem. I use to have PSP.EXE in my computer but I uninstalled long time ago.

I removed all associations to PSP from the association tab but when I but my computer they show againg.

What is the problem? How I make the jpg files to open with Phote Deluxe. When I try to associate jpg to Photo Deluxe I get a message that jpg is already associated with Photo Deluxe.

What is happening? is any thing corrupted in my comptuer.

I am using Windows 98SE.

you can do this a number of ways, not sure which one will work with 98se. right click on the file and go to open with, then choose the program and make sure to click the little box to always open it with this program.

open windows explorer, go to tools, folder options, then fily types, find your extension and edit what program it is being opened with. and voila.

I ready tried that. When I right click one of the options is to OPEN which do not give you a choice to associage the file. Another option is property but again there is no option to associate. In the file type tab when a try to associate the jpg and pcx to Photo Deluxe, windows don't let me do it and tells me that these extension are already in use by Photo Deluxe.

Simplest way to associate file extensions is using Windows 3.x's File Manager.

-Start/Run/Winfile
-Look for a .jpg and highlight it.
-File/Associate
-Scroll down and choose from the drop down list and choose Photo Deluxe or use the browse button and find Photo Deluxe's .exe.
-OK
-Repeat for .pcx.

That is strange indeed - if the assosiation is there it should open with your selected choice unless the program it is assosiated with is causing it to try to load PSP(Paint Shop Pro) I might try to download and install PSP and see what happens.

Thank you Pretty Cool. By using the File manager as you indicated I was able to associate the jpg & pcx files to Photo Deluxe. It is strange that when I wen to file associate menu these two files extensions were associated to "none".
