I like Filter because the leads brother is the Evil T2, the gambler loser on the Sopranos, and Doggett.

TooL is more musical, has more talent. Filter is a buncha power chords with a strong bassline. I listened to Aenima for months on end, and it never got boring. Lateralus has been in the car since it's been released. Just my $0.02

I've seen both bands live (although filter was a long time ago... 94 or 95 maybe) and they both put on a great show. However, tool live is something special. Especially tool live in 95 at a small club. There are few bands that have the kind of stage presence and ability to utterly mesmerize a crowd.
I've yet to hear Filter's latest album, although I liked short bus a lot.
I actually have to go among hte I don't like Lateralus crowd. Opiate was always my favorite tool album, and it still is. Undertow and Aenima were both wonderful, unique albums, but they lacked the energy of Opiate. Lateralus lacks the energy and the flair IMHO. Too wandery.
I still voted for tool

I'll have to agree with fmh (who must be a Pearl Jam fan as well)

Filter is good, Short Bus was a strong album, but Tool is mesmerizing. Comparing Tool and Filter is like comparing the waterslide in my backyard with Disneyland.

I also agree with Blundar, Lateralus was pretty intense, but too wandering for my liking. All those beat changes messed with my head

Aemima was definitely my favorite. Third Eye Rocks!

I've been listening to Lateralus CONSTANTLY for a few months, and as a musician, I think that is one of the best albums I've ever heard. If you listen to it enough, you really pick up on the complexity of the music. You still can't count any of the rhythyms tho...

Hey LordMaul,

If you refuse to waste bandwidth on them, why'd you post in the thread?

I think Kenny G's on MTV, go watch TV.

I heard a Filter concert on a "Sunday Night Live" show on a local rock station. THEY SUCKED LIVE! I've been to a Tool concert, and they are one of the few bands that actually sound better on stage than they do on CD.

I own both Filter albums, as well as all Tool albums except Opiate. I find tool to be a much more musicly complex band and much more enthralling.

Filter is as another said, a strong basline with a fairly linear sound. They are good for listening too in the background of a video game or a movie, but by them selves, they are not as captivating as tool.
