Well a buddy of mine said his friend heard that Final Cut Pro will be coming to Windows PCs sometime soon.

Anybody know this for sure?

Who cares though?
Final Cut Pro is an awful program for editing if you ask me. Adobe Premiere is leagues ahead than that peice of garbage.

Care to elaborate on that or should we just assume that you are a rabid Apple hater?

Briefly, I am a rabid apple hater.

Seriously though, use both products and compare. Premiere is a much more polished and refined product than Final Cut, most likely because final cut is v1. While it's a nice first attempt, when you get all serious about some hardcore editing, Final Cut is a little problematic in the way it does things. Premiere just does them a whole lot better. Maybe when Final Cut has gone through a couple more iterations it would be a good contender.

I'm no fan of Apple and it's crazed, maniacal zealots, but you're nonsense does nothing to bolster your argument and a lot to make you look foolish.

Apple just introduced Final Cut Pro 3 and it's been the darling of the indie DV filmamking set since the jump. If anything, Premiere has finally gotten a clue about DV with version 6. Heck, Videomaker Magazine named Ulead's Media Studio Pro 6.5 as "Best Video Editing Software Over $100". (What was best under $100? Apples iMovie.)

I've got Premiere 6, Media Studio Pro 6 and Vegas Video 3, but haven't had time to adequately explore any of them yet, but I'm not putting down Final Cut at all.

That said, I doubt that Apple will bother with a PC version of FC. Software drives hardware and they really need to move some G4s and porting it over won't help them much.

errr ok. I'll admit I jumped the gun a bit (see I can admit my mistakes) Doesn't explain why late last year the graphic design section out at my uni decided to use Final Cut Pro v1 over Premiere 6. I wasn't aware of updated versions because it was only one assignment so I never bothered to follow up. But still I have yet to see Apple software UNfavourably reviewed mostly because the reviews are mac zealots. I think most people fall under the candy spell and never realise it's crap.

BTW here's a real snippet of conversation (read argument) with a lecturer

L: "We're going to use Final Cut Pro 1!!!! for your video assignments"
Me: "What about premiere 6?
Friend: "Yeah. Premiere 6 looks good"
L: "But Final Cut Pro is made by apple."
Me: "Yes. But can we at least look at other products that are perhaps mature?"
L: "Apple, apple, apple apple"

OK so I made up the chanting but you get the gist.

I really doubt FCP is gonna come to the PC. There is no reason for Apple to port one of it's flagship proggies (Many editors I know bought Macs soley because of FCP) over to PCs. And since none of the Mac rumor sites, which watch Apple like a hawk, have mentioned this rumor, I must conclude that someone was talking outta their butt.

And, IMO (and Hollywood's) FCP 2.x or 3.0 is far better to edit with than Premiere 6 (FCP 1.x should be compared to Premiere 5.x). I find the FCP interface to be much more intuitive<sp?> and less cluttered than the Premiere 6 interface (I've been using them both since June of '01. Before that I was editing w/AVID's MC Xpress software). Also, Apple is making FCP compatable with high end software. For example, you can edit "offline" (think draft quality) on FCP then output the editing timeline and edit "online"(think finish quality) using, for example, AVID Symphony. And "offlining" using FCP is about $80,000 cheaper than using AVID Media Composer (Which is what many people "offline" with). FCP 3.0 also utilizes OMF audio files so audio can travel "freely" between FCP and, let's say, Pro-Tools (no need to render or change file types). FCP 3.0 also has the ability to do realtime previews of FX and transitions (this used to require additional hardware). The one thing that I really like 'bout Premiere 6, though, is it's real time audio mixer. That thing is very nice to have.
Where Adobe is trying to make Premiere all self contained and stand alone, Apple is making FCP able to work with other software that man pro's use while still making it a great stand alone proggie.
My home machine is a PC running Premiere 6 and I can't really complain. That said, I have a copy of FCP 3.0 sitting on my desk and I'm waiting for the faster G4s or G5s to be released.

end rant

Sure thing kid, whatever you say...

That said, I'm most likely going to be picking up a G5 with Final Cut Pro 3.0 later on this year. I've built and owned PCs exclusivly for years now, but FCP is *the* reason I'm going to be picking up a Mac. If they ported it over to Windows NT/XP that would probably be a different story. Apple knows this and I seriously doubt that they would port Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro to the PC platform.

The functionality you get with both those programs vs other comparable software suites is remarkable. The color corrector in FCP 3.0 saves almost $50000 against a comparable tape-to-tape color corrector.

Oh, and that 22" Cinema Display is nice too
