Final Decision

I need some help in my last decision for my new computer.
Currently i have chosen:
FX-53/55 (money depedant)
Seagate 120 Sata HD
thermaltake 480W silent PSU
Asus A8V Deluxe
Leadtek A400 Ultra (6800Ultra)
Kingston HyperX 3200 ram (1gig)
SilenX case fans and CPU cooler

I need some help deciding on the GPU. Currently im leaning towards the Ultra because of SM 3.0 and because my currnet card is Nvidia and i cant fault it. Obviously my other option is the X800XT PE card. Is shader model 3 really worth it at the moment. I mainly play flight sims like Pacific Fighters which uses SM3, Lock on and Far Cry. Suposidly Pacific Fighters is basically unplayable at good resolutions with SM3 used. Would that be more of a driver issue or is it because its just too new? Really need some help on this one. The two cards are just so close.

Is this a brand new system? Get a PCI-Express card and mobo, it's better for the future (AGP is still good, but will likely become very rare by Q3 or Q4 2005)

Are you going to OC? If not, Value RAM

EDIT: I don't see a case in there, which case you getting? Don't tell me you're getting a crappy one, that system needs good cooling

I personally dont think there is anything wrong with getting an AGP mobo, look at how long PCI held on even after AGP was released. I dont think you are shooting yourself in the foot or anything with the A8V

Not shooting in the foot, more like a prick in the ankle . . .

For the case i did get a resonably basic one, becasue i wanted to mod it up myself with case fans, not the noisy stuff in expensive cases, and its much cheaper too. The case has plenty of vetilation and ill be running 1*9cm fan at the rear one 8cm at the bottom front, and a 12cm at the top instead of 3 of the drive bays i wont be using. Sounds stupid but it works a treat. Cooling wont be an issue niether will sound with the silenX fans and cpu cooler and the chipset cooler.
And yes i probably will OC down the track not much point when this system will run everything i throw at it fine.
Any advice on the SM3.0 issue?

Go with the AGP mobo. AGP will be around for many years to come. As said above, look at PCI graphics cards and how long they lasted after AGP came out.
