Final Fantasy 10: Can I win the Luca cup?

It seems as though that every time I try winning, I lose because the other team has mega stats and my team is a bunch of wussies with terrible stats, so much so that they can't even break one person. I try my best for the first half, than when the next half comes along, I use the Jecht shot to get a goal. That works most of the time, but it takes a bloody 120 hp for one shot and it takes a bit for a player to regerenate that kind of health; this means I can only use it once.

I'm trying to win this thing, and if I had some stats on some of my players, I would make this one hell of a game.

It's like vsing the New England patriots when your on the London Sillynannies, it seems like it's fixed for you to lose.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I beat them 3-1 on my first try with the Jecht Shot. It's been a very long time since I've played, so I don't remember...

but my general blitzball strategy is to take a very fast player (65+ speed, 70+ ideal - Guados, Brother), run close to the enemy players to get them to follow my player, then run around until I can pass to a forward without someone blocking my pass. Then I take my chances with the goalie (usually Tidus is the one shooting).

I believe with the starting Besaid lineup, Datto is the only one with better-than-usual speed. I don't remember if he starts out with good speed, though - he's crazy at the high levels.

Now that is pretty helpful, Im wondering if I find my best shot, keep him on the corner, and throw the ball before anyone gets close and go for the goal. I'm gonna try that now. But for the record and to not spoil it, is the reward worth it? A simple yes or no will do. Thanks anyhow everyone =), if there is more to add, than please do so.

Yep. Wakka is almost as good as Tidus, though. He just lacks the Jecht shot.

i remember a few years ago there was a project to emulate PS2 on the PC. how is that coming along? last time i checked they managed to see the FFX main menu!
PC hardware has really become very strong in the last 2 years or so, so i magine hardware requirement for playing PS2 games wouldnt be too high. the major problem is cracking the PS2 Assembly code and translating it to PC Assembly commands.

i played many games with a PSX emulator on my PC, a PS2 emu would be a dream.

I checked it out a couple months ago; it ran surprisingly well. However, there were still graphical glitches, and the sound was pretty crappy. I believe the entire game is playable, but I wouldn't want to play it.

You need to be ahead of them when Tidus leaves, or it's much more difficult. Just nail a Jecht shot then run down the timer.

its funny this thread is up. I just replayed the game a few months ago and it is indeed possible to win.

the easy way is to make sure you get the jecht shot from the boat scene prior to docking in luca. you should get it anyway since tidus will be your best player from level 1-20 and its a nice skill to have. If you play blitz way into the later levels 50+ you will find tidus is the worst at any position. dump his ass early and start building up the kilika beasts because they are really good later on.

anyway back to your question, try to score with tidus in the first half, but if you get unlucky wakka is just as capable at scoring. try to get some good passes in, get close enough to the net without getting caught, pass to wakka and have him shoot. the key is to keep passing and make sure you don't get caught because these guys have superior stats.

I think I scored twice.

I disagree with Tidus as a horrible player; he's one of my favorite forwards just because he's so easy to use with Jecht Shot 2. Seriously, JS2 makes the game so much easier. Besides, the only really good forwards up until like level 60 are the Al Bhed players (Eigaar) and Vilucha. The Beasts are CRAZY at the high levels, but most of them don't get good until after level 60.

You can check GameFAQs for some help.

The consensus over there is that at high levels, Sphere Shot is better than JS2.

Maybe, but JS2 introduces some unique tactics (i.e. makes it easy as hell to score when you can take out 3 defenders outright).

Plus, all but like two of the goalies at the high levels suck - Nimrook and Wedge are the only really good ones. And both of them are usually on my team.
