Interesting. I always assumed 1080p because it was on the back of the box, and pretty much all my other PS3 simply ran at 720p and didn't do scaling.

Some research shows 1080p cutscenes with 720p native during gameplay, which is probably how they were able to get away with putting 1080p on the back of the box.

That's a shame. It's still a rough situation for PC gamers, but it would have stung more if my statement were true.

Why do people care about this? Final Fantasy XIII sucked. At least now there might be hope of Final Fantasy IX coming to PC. I really don't want to play it on a PlayStation.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is 50GB and has a lot less content. It's all those ugly pre-rendered letterbox cutscenes.

You can play the game in English or Japanese. When you download the game, you get two copies of all the movies because the FMV sequences were all rerendered for the English version to fix lip-syncing issues. If you live in Japan, you only get the Japanese version and the dl is about 30GB. Everyone else gets both versions. Yes, let's trash SE for giving people options, while also trashing them for not giving people options.

The cut scenes are 1080p cause its blueray video. However, it looks like in time for the greatest hits release the game was updated so that the game PLAYS in 1080p and the menus are rendered in 1080p, but the games graphics are still 720p upscaled (and not anything fancy upscaled, it is just blown up. It does not look better or worse then the old rendered 3d).

Even at 720p I'm surprised how good this game looks considering it's a port of a 5 year old game designed to run on 2005 graphic tech. Great art direction does wonders.

Seriously though they could had handle the Japanese content differently, as an extra DLC you can tick to download, like how the HD textures in Sleeping Dogs or Skyrim was handled. Instead of forcing us to download an extra 30GB that some of us will never touch.

Vanille's voice bothered me at first, because instead of concentrating on what the character was saying, the internal dialogue in my head was something like:

"Is that a small town Australian girl? Or a British girl trying to sound southern? I think it's an Australian girl. I like Australian girls, they're usually pretty cute. I wonder if the VA looks like Vanille IRL..., oh great, I don't know what's going on in the game again because I was distracted!"

So I eventually just looked up some interviews with the VA, so I wouldn't have to think about it anymore. Turned out the VA was a totally awesome person. She has a hair-loss condition, but a great attitude about it... has some decent stand-up comedy.... She's pretty cool.

Now I like Vanille's voice.

Which means I personally don't want the 30GB of Japanese audio stuff. It's too bad that wasn't optional to download.

So yes. 13 is uber linear. But to say that I-XII (excluding XI) were the complete opposite is wrong.

You just quoted and bolded what I said, and I specifically did not say they were "the complete opposite." Those are your words.

They were, however, not hallways, which is what FF13 is, pure and simple. Freedom and non-linearity have never been hallmarks of the series or genre, but there's absolutely no reason to remove what little there was already.

Flying around on an airship and landing on different continents and exploring different caves for new monsters and weapons and items and XP might not be Skyrim, but it is inarguably superior to the regression of "the hallway."

That's not merely limited to exploration, but types and numbers of enemies as well.
