I tried playing FF6, but I got bored really, really early. I remember some kind of river rapids, and maybe a desert city? (or was that a different FF...)

Honestly, I feel like I should try again because everyone loves it so much, but the beginning lacked a hook and I found it hard to push through.

Yeah that is FF6.

You definitely need to play through it. Force yourself to play through it all. You will not be sorry.

I always preferred 2 (US-SNES) to 3 (US-SNES).

3 was fun, but the story in 2 was more cohesive, I thought.

forcing to play through does not sound fun...

I probably played it 4 or 5 times through. maybe more, I don't know. There were parts that I definitely hated--the first time you split up, the team you take through those rapids with Terra was a pain, getting through the ghost town, which you always need to return to for epic loot and weapons--that kick ass chainsaw and such.

I think the best part of the game are the hidden characters--the sasquatch and that mimic clown thingy are quite awesome.

I always thought Kefka was a super lame villain. Keep in mind, I played them since FF1 was first released. Sephiroth takes the cake as the best villain in the series if you ask me.

I thought Edgar's chainsaw was in Fanatic's Tower around level 50 or so? That might be a different weapon... I know one of them is in there .

Umaru (sasquatch) and Gogo (clown) were two of my least played characters . Given how you had to learn the esper's abilities over time, it was easier to just use the same characters. I usually only took an extra character if I was looking to complete something such as taking Gau to the Veldt to gain some extra beastiary-based ability.

I wonder if its just that Kefka isn't the style of villain that we may be as used to. Kefka is more like The Joker from Batman... the sadistic style, but in his case, he is purely motivated by a lust for power. Sephiroth is more of a mysterious, cold and calculating type, which I think is more common for us. Not to say we don't get any sadistic style villains (as mentioned earlier, The Joker, an iconic villain, would count).

Don't forget the part where
you wait for Shadow on the floating island thing. Then when the world changes to the messed up world, you can find shadow again and have him as a character.

But I said it would be worth it!

Actually, I agree, there are parts in the game that make you cringe thinking about. However, sometimes you just gotta force your way through those parts in order to really experience the amazing and awesome storyline and gameplay of FFVI.

I am definitely going to buy this game the moment it hits US PSN.

haha, oh yeah, I remember that clock.

Jeez, just thinking back to when I was playing this game on the SNES on a 13" color TV. That was probably 15 years ago.

FFVI had so many secrets and the only way I was able to find out some of those were from things like magazines (nintendo power, EGM) or simply word of mouth from my friends. The Internet was not available back then

Now I can just go to gamefaqs.com and find a walkthrough that gives every single secret/hidden area. Oh how times have changed.

Nostalgia thread!

I remember playing FF7 for the first time. I had to rent it and a PS1 from a local store, and both the game and system were in terrible condition. Any time I got into a battle I had to wait, literally, about five minutes for it to load. Every time.

Totally worth it.

One of the saddest memories I had on that game was trying to save Cid right after the major planet change as that female character

I didn't even realize that you could
save Shadow's life
my first play through. When I found out you could, I felt like a huge jerk!

Man, everything about that game was awesome. I love how the first half is linear and the second half really opens up. I love all the little tricks, like how you could dispel the Cursed Shield, or the vanish/x-zone trick, or using Phoenix Down on undead enemies, or the special set of equipment for Imp-ed characters, etc etc etc.

My favorite part was turning Setzer into the ultimate killing machine. I gave him the Offering and Genji Glove relics, and equipped him with Fixed Dice and Doom Darts. (Offering normally lets you do 4 attacks at half strength, but since the Fixed Dice aren't based on strength, they do full damage regardless).

Dammit I might need to play it again soon. . .

yeah, I always got it from entering the time in the clock.

i liked sasquatch, for whatever reason, b/c he was constant berserk and crazy strong. You didn't have to control him, which was nice. I also liked that he would randomly toss your dudes as weapons, heh. Actually, i don't think I used Gogo too often, but having him mimic Terra in Esper (I think he could do that, no?) was rather powerful.

Of my highest-level playthroughs, sasquatch was usually the last to die. I seem to remember him surviving alone the final few rounds with Kefka and killing him, lol.

I'd have to say, though, that my overall favorite characters was Kain from FFII. that dude was badass. I also liked Rydia more than most others in the series.

II SNES is my favorite of all time.
III SNES / VI was a solid game though. The mechs and espers were a bit different from the previous FF games.

haha, yeah I remember giving genji gloves to Cyan and having him do like 8 hits in a row.

Also, don't forget about that forest where you fight tyrannosaur and those brontosaurs for maximum HP grinding. Equip some EXP eggs and you could level up pretty fast doing that.

I liked Sabin too b/c his special ability felt like playing Street Fighter 2 or something.

Man that game has such good music in it. I loved the semi-RTS battles too with your multiple team parties.
