Good game, not a hot deal. I really don't think we need a damn thread every time PSN gets a game like FF7, Suikoden II (please!), Xenogears (please!) or whatever.

FF3 is the all time greatest from the FF series

This

If referring to FF VI (III in the US), then yes.

Ended up costing me $50.

Had to buy a 2gig memory stick and a $20 PSN card as I refused to use a credit card through the store.

It is good, looks better than I expected although I did have to switch to full screen. The text is easy to read; that was actually a big concern of mine. Another concern of mine is the lack of L2 and R2. I think I needed those buttons for Chocobo racing. Guess I'm not winning any races?

Does this have any of the graphical enhancements / improved translation of the PC version or is it the RTM version of the PS1?

I'm assuming you bought this for an unhacked PSP, because, for that price, you could have bought the original discs.

I remember, at the time of FFVII, I worked in a coffee house and this guy would come in with a big Aries tatoo on his shoulder. That is some hardcore love for FF.

I agree FFVII is one of the best games of all time but I am not yet ready to get inked for a video game...

Don't remind me.

I still can't believe they killed her off after 1 disc

I couldn't even use a friggin Pheonix Down WTF!?!?!?!?! :|

I spent mindless hours trying to figure out if there was a way to bring her back.

Anyways I'm glad they didn't remake it. I'd cry if they added in voice acting. Even though it adds the dimension of emotion through sound, I feel I lose creativity through deciding how each character will sound in my head

(I wouldn't mind a "FF7 Remix" though..something with slightly improved graphics and some new characters, plot twists, and story branches added. That would rock!)

Her level 4 limit break was crazy awesome.

You know I can't remember it beyond, "Buff you in every way possible". I fought fire bombs for upwards 12+ hours, with a protection materia on her that had her take all hits, in order to get her level4 limit break.

I then took my wrath on sepiroth (after beating it several times lol) and used a gameshark code to put her back in the game =) Of course, FF7 isn't very hard, so I didn't need her super magic skills.

Yeah, it was hacked and then unhacked. I work in the industry and would throw up at the thought of someone pirating my companies work. My coworkers work hard, I work hard and I'm sure the people who worked on FF7 worked hard.

Besides, FF7 was worth paying twice for

Except for Emerald and Ruby Weapon. They were a bitch even with spam KOTRx2 x3 which took so friggen long because you couldn't skip the sequence.

You know I was more sad about Cat Sith's death (well he didn't actually die). Than Aeris, lol.

Can someone who has purchased this on PSN confirm something for me? I own the original FF7 disc version. However, the big problem is that the O button is mapped to Accept and the X to Cancel. Which is unlike most every other game out there. Any chance that the PSN version has been changed to fix this slight flaw and that X is now Accept?

What a major revolution in video game storytelling FFVII was. First of its kind. I remember skipping school to play this game.

That said, I tried playing through it awhile ago and I couldn't do it. Although it made advances in the *way* stories were told on video games, I was pretty disappointed in the characters my last run through. I kind of despite the "depressed hero" archetype that Cloud introduced. If there was a /wrists command in FFVIII that I could have used on Squall, I would've done it within the first hour of playing and saved 40+ hours of my life.

My $.02:
IMO FF storytelling reached its zenith in IX. It had likable characters you could emotionally invest in and the story itself was interesting. VII had an interesting story but I didn't really feel for the characers. VIII I've blotted out from my memory as achieving the dubious trifecta of terrible characters, story and gameplay. X was ok. I had a hard time getting over the silliness of Wakka (who throws a beach ball at enemies???). XII I thought had awesome characters (with the exception of Vaan and Penelo, whom I thought felt out of place and were generally boring), but I felt the story fizzled towards the end. Great gameplay though.

Not meaning to get people riled up (though I know some people will be). I spent my high school years on a crusade to lambast anybody who thought VIII was a good game. I've heard from a lot of people who despise IX, even though it's my favorite one. Now I don't really care. To each their own I guess.

I have the PSN version. by default it is the same. I thought I saw a menu to change the controls but I didn't actually go into it.

No physical disc switching, but there's virtual disc switching!

I ended up buying both FF7 and ZEN pinball. More games on my PS3 I don't have time to play. LOL

Yes, you can in fact change the button mapping in the character options menu. I did some testing right after I d/l it from PSN.

Can someone recommend characters to level?

I heard Cloud, Sid, and Barret were good. Going to start my first play through, but need all the help I can get because I REALLY suck at FF games.

Cloud, Sid, and Yuffie! Of course Aerith's 4th limit break was the best.. It basically makes your team immortal but it's almost impossible to get. Yuffie's final limits are very powerful but she is a weaker attacker until you get her leveled up..so if you just want to play the game without grinding for abilities, go with RedXIII, Barret, or Vincent instead. There are always tradeoffs. Level everybody up and see which abilities you like. It doesn't matter anyway once you get Knights of the Round..mwahaha.
