I had to put in a 16 hour day at work yesterday so I didn't get home until late. Still, after 6 more hours of play before I crapped out I managed to get to 11 Thaum, 8 goldsmith.

Did you play the closed/open beta? Any improvements with the user interface?

I'm using the PC in my sig. Think it will run well at 1920x1200?

Edit: Anyone with an extra buddy pass?

Ditto, are there any good improvements? More mobs? UI Speed increased? More quests?

UI speed is greatly increased. Hardware mouse is now natively supported instead of having to use windowerXIV. The database debug code they were running is now gone so menu's pop much faster.

The UI lag is still present, but not as bad as open / closed beta. There are zero more mobs or mob spawns in the world and there are no new quests introduced with the retail version, unless you want to count a few extra guildleve 30-40 " quests"

With the exception to the hardware mouse being in game and there being slightly less UI lag, its exactly the same as open beta

When you say UI lag improvements can you elaborate at all? Like is it still obnoxiously noticeable?

Pretty much the only UI lag that I notice now is when you open a merchant's buy/sell screen. Everything else feels more responsive to me than it was in beta (I use a controller). Targeting is still the same as beta.

As for quests, apparently they've added a bunch of class quests in addition to extending the main story quests. I have not gotten far enough yet to see any, though.

For the most part, it feels like a newer version of the beta that just runs better. If you liked the beta, jump in; if not, you might want to wait a while until more content is out. I keep having the feeling that they're going to add more for the general release, but we'll have to see. As a long-time XI player, something like that would not surprise me in the least.

I got my pre-order CE that I reserved a few months ago, but I'm not even sure I've got time to play now haha, still sitting in the plastic so far. I really did love 11 though, hopefully I can pull a couple friends into 14 and give it a go.

Im on the Istory world and liking the game in the limited time I play. Have about 4 RL friends that have gamed with for years in too. The learning curve is there but is the main reason I liked 11 so much. You cant just log in and be uber..

Thanks in advance for any information regarding my situation.

I plan to get FFXIV, but I'm not sure if my system specs are good enough to handle the game. I was just wondering if any would could provide feedback on my specs in terms of if it will work for the game. I have a ATI Radeon HD 4250 Graphics Card (Integrated), AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 215 Processor (2 CPUs), ~2.7GHz. I have everything else at Recommended settings level. I'm really concerned that I will need to purchase a stand alone graphics card, plus a new power supply to fully handle that card and maybe a fan?

Would I be able to play this game at bare minimal settings with my computer rig?

I'm wondering too if I could enjoy the game with the system in my sig. 1920x1200. I don't use AF/AA and don't mind turning a few options, like shadows, off.

Chocobar, I have a rig a notch better than yours, same vid card tho. The open beta ran for me at around 10-15fps. And this went for 90% of people i talked to as well. Unless you have the best hardware available at the moment, game runs like total ass.

And that was with most of the options turned off as well. I would LOVE to play the game, but right now this game is totally borked!

If they ever optimize it, I would love to check it out. But so far, sounds like nothing has changed.

I eager for a new MMO but i dont want to buy the game then find out it still runs at 15fps.

I read that the retail is much much smoother than beta cause all the debug code is out.

I hope so. Nobodies being very talkative about it though. Pretty unhelpful.

Everybody's saying the interface is made smoother by the debug code being out. I have no idea how that affects overall fps. I would assume very little or next to none.

*shrug* Just hate to go out and buy it, patch it, set it up and then find out it still runs terrible and shelve it for 6 months if it is ever fixed.

All i've seen are mediocre reviews for it too and a lot of bad ones. I dont even know how many people are playing it.

EDIT: And on top of that, everyone seems to think the game is very GPU hungry. I tend to believe the game is not optimized AT ALL. In open beta with all options on, the game was very unimpressive.

Especially since i get 60+fps on Crysis with all options turned on and 15fps on FFXIV with medium options. I feel bad for the people thinking their rig is outdated when in fact its the game that is coded like shit.

I dont expect this game to last more than 3-6 months before they're doing server merges, unless they optimize their game.

For whatever the reason, the game seems a lot less laggy in general than open beta. That's the biggest noticeable change between open beta and release. Someone said the new timer on battle/fieldcraft leves is 36hrs maybe instead of 48, and there's some other minor tweaks like that, but Open Beta - lag pretty much = release.

The interface response time is better, yes, though to me it is still a pretty slow interface regardless. You'll probably have the exact same fps as you did in beta, as it didn't change at all for me. Of course, I didn't have quite so much trouble with it as did you and some others, and my rig was put together in late 2006. I'm not hitting anything near 60fps at (mostly) high settings, but the fps I do get doesn't affect my gameplay unless I'm at a camp with a heck of a lot of other people.

I'm enjoying the game so far, but I'm still rank 10 and below in all my classes (I can't help but switch between about 8 classes at once). I've learned a few more basic things about the game over the past few days (like you do in any new game), and as I do it feels like the game is really starting to open up.

Don't expect a ton of magical improvements, though there are some incremental ones. If you kinda liked the concept but think their code needs optimizing before the game's worth playing, I suggest waiting a few months at least to see if they are making it better. That's pretty much all I can think of to tell anyone who tried the open beta.

edit: I was going to try to post on Friday while I was waiting on a car repair, but I messed up and lost my post twice on my blackberry before I realized how much I hate typing on it.

If you turn down the right settings it runs well on mid range hardware. If you turn it up all the way its a slide show. Is that so hard to understand?

I'm only posting this rant here cause I'm at work and want to get it off my chest...I'll make sure to pass my opinions on to Square-Enix later.

Something seems wrong with the fatigue system, or perhaps there is some other sp/exp limiting bug. Has anyone else noticed this? Here are my hrs played from Thurs - Sun, plus or minus a little: 2/4/5/5. Approx 16 total hours in 4 days -- that's a little more than I usually play per day, because I always put in longer hours with a new game. In that time, I've gotten physical lvl to 15; thaum/conj to 9/7; miner/bontanist to 7/7; goldsmith/carpenter/culinarian to 7/9/5. It's INCREDIBLY easy to level up using leves in these early levels once you know how. However, despite the fact that I've spread my efforts around so many classes, my Thaum is capped out currently with 300sp away from rank10. I couldn't gain any sp/exp with that class last night. Others in my LS have gotten capped out at rank11 (with only 12 physical) or even rank 8 on their main classes, though I've seen someone at rank 16 so far, so I know this doesn't happen to everyone.

Now, I haven't been a proponent or a naysayer of the fatigue system up til now, but this rubs me the wrong way. Sure, my problem is probably a bug that will get fixed, and they will probably continue to adjust the fatigue system as they get more feedback, but I'm feeling some sympathy for those who HAVE and WILL genuinely hit fatigue and are crying out about it.

On a weekday gaming session, I usually get to play about 1.5-2hrs, which usually occurs 2-3 times a week. On weekends, I generally play about 2-6hrs a day, depending on many things. I should normally have absolutely nothing to worry about with the FFXIV fatigue system, especially with my ADD tendency to switch classes. But as an ex-hardcore gamer, I'm still known to have a video game binge session occasionally if the stars have lined up correctly. I can just imagine a really fun group gaming session, where things are goin smoothly, everyone's on top of their game, people are cracking up and having a good time, and then someone hits cap and decides to leave. Even if they stay, they're gonna get a little (or a lot) cranky & bitter towards SE. But really...why should that be a possible downer in a game in which practically EVERYTHING you do is about leveling up (and grinding, depending how you look at it)? It doesn't even promote leveling other classes...it just potentially takes away any benefit from continuing to play how you want to play.

Booooo SE. Let people play. This artificial measure won't do anything to prevent people who play a lot from having an advantage in an RPG. As far as advantages go...same deal with the lack of an auction house. If an AH can be manipulated, so can the marketplace.

Does it actually say you're getting surplus xp? If not, I really don't think that's the fatigue system at all, and is (as you're guessing) simply a bug of some sort.

I have physical @ 17, botanist/miner @ 12/7, carpenter/blacksmith/weaver @ 11/7/5, pugilist/gladiator @ 7/4, and haven't seen anything like what you're mentioning.

My biggest issue right now is the lack of an AH. Nobody wants to browse through hundreds of retainers one by one, that's just ridiculous. Doubly so when it takes as long as it does with the current UI and whatnot.

I don't recall ever seeing surplus XP, no. IIRC, my SP total showed in blue, like 4000/4300, but I can't recall at this moment what status that indicates. But yes, I'm not sure if it's a bug directly in the fatigue system or somewhere else, but it got me thinking about the fatigue system. I also completely agree with your opinion on the AH.

The game's not hopeless by any means, but definitely still feels unfinished. Does anyone know what their policy is when you cancel your account? Do they immediately delete your character, or is there some leeway to give you time to reconsider? I'm not cancelling my subscription already, but depending on how quickly and if they fix certain issues, I may want to cancel my subscription for a while and pick it back up later. The reason I never picked FFXI back up is because I couldn't stomach the thought of releveling all those classes I had at Lv30+, since they had deleted my character.

I believe that it shows in blue when you had Guardian's Aspect active during a levequest.

I agree that it feels unfinished. Almost makes me wonder if the PS3 date was when they really expected to have things ready, but some suits decided to force it out early. The stuff that's there seems to work pretty decently now, but it does still feel like stuff is missing.

As for cancelling, I can't say for sure, but I'd be pretty surprised if they delete your character if you suspend your account. They stopped deleting characters for XI a very long time ago (as evidenced by their "return to vana'diel" promotions). That's not to say that there's no chance of it, but I'd like to believe they wouldn't do that again.

I got the beta invite, but didn't get a key. I checked my spam folder, my trash, everything. I never got it.

If they can't get THAT right, then fuck it.

Besides, I know three people who've played FF14 and the two of them I've talked to about it say it's basically FF11 with better graphics and is only slightly more geared to solo play.

Ok...is this game suitable for someone who have like 10 hours max a week to play?
Or should I stick to single player?
