Let?s pretend both the GeForce 6800 Ultra's and the Radeon X850XT's prices are irrelevant for the moment. This is the last part I need to complete my new computer and I'm taking way too much time trying to decide. I?m going for the Single-card solution because two high end card's in SLI atm is a major waste of money for me due to other life expenses.
What would be my best choice for longevity in graphics the X850XT(by HIS) or the 6800 Ultra(by EVGA)? The X850XT I know outperforms the geforce card on most games with the exception of a few OpenGL or nVIDIA sponsored games(doom 3...). I can't trust myself to go with SLI atm for many reasons, but in the future it would be much cheaper when upgrading if I went for the 6800U right now, except for the fact I have to get the exact same card from the same manufacturer if they still make it.
And seeing as new technology is always coming out especially in this day and age would it be worth getting the slower 6800U and bypassing the option of SLI upgrade? I know nVidia is not supporting SLI between two different card model especially if the future places dual GPU's in a single card then the whole SLI upgrade path would have been a bad decision.
I'm no fanboy of ATI or nVIDIA I've use low/midend of both cards but never high-end and I've noticed no issues between either. The only difference between then and now is SLI and the fact that people claim ATI aren't holding up on their end with driver support whereas nVIDIA is. I it helps, when I do game I play strategy games, RPG's, MMO's and the occasional fps.
I have to make this decision today so i can finish my order at the store so everyone if you can please choose one of the two cards that you believe s best in this situation, thanks. (Oh and I'm not considering 6600gt's in SLI... it's a waste o a possible upg slot in the future and I wont be able to sell the card cause I can't pelase only consider the EXACT two cards stated in this post thank you.)
