I'm not so sure the Ultra will drive the price of the GTX down appreciably. NVidia's target market for this card is mostly high-end niche builders like Falcon, Alienware, Polywell, etc and geeks w/lots of disposable income.

I think the card's going to retail considerably higher than the current GTX's pricing...so why would the price of the GTX come down? This is all conjecture on my part...my gut feeling, if you will.

Now, I hope the price of the GTX DOES come down; I want one, but not at anything over $400.

But w/ATI floundering in the water and out of the high-end graphics game for the forseeable future, why should NVidia lower any prices at all?

I'm going to buy an EVGA 8800GTS 320MB in about 2 days time....any advice there? Is there any indication of a price drop for either the 320MB or the 640MB?

I want to build a top of the line pc but I'd rather wait till they release a 1gb version. I can see this 768mb version getting obsolete pretty soon.

What do you all think?

any ideas guys?

not sure 1Gb would work due to that 384bit bus.

thats 6 x 64bit controllers, 12 x 64MB GDDR3 chips, the next step really is 1.5GB...12x 128MB chips, im not sure that they can mix n match ie have a combo of 64MB and 128MB to get a gig

ATi went with 8x64bit controllers, thats 16x 64MB chips.

So, it seems this card isn't going to be an over-priced, limited production card destined only to win reviewer benchmarks:

"Industry sources are speculating that NVIDIA might revise the pricing downwards to be in better competition with the upcoming Radeon HD 2900 XT cards. Reviews are set to appear on May 1st and availability by mid May."

Could this be the next top of the line card above the GTX, actually available and at lower prices? Could this impact the price of the current 8800 GTS/X's, downwards of course?

Or is it still going to be a limited edition $1,000 card meant to be sent to reviewers and the very wealthy?

Thanks...

Since you can overclock GTX (YMMV), what's so special about the Ultra? In essence, you are paying for a guaranteed OC.

Card looks like a beast, but i wish they wouldn't put the VIVO/S-Video port on the side.
It should been set between the DVI ports (like ATi does it), so that those of us running dual displays using nice fat DVI cables don't have issues fitting the DVI cables on.

Also, this had better not come out priced @ $1000.

I am so tired of the increasing overpriced high end market for video cards....

From what I have read, most of the GTX cards can hit 650 core and 2100 memory no problem... Heck, some of them are being sold at 630/2000 stock (well, factory overclocked, at least). So, I don't see anything special here. I suppose these Ultra's will be able to be O/C further, but the price difference would pretty much turn all but the "extremely rich I have nothing better to do with my money than throw it away" type people...

I suppose I stand with most people here and hope this drives down the cost of the GTX cards.

What do you think the chances are that the 8800Ultra will be priced lower than $1k, or is it already pretty much set in stone that this will be a limited-edition, super-expensive card?

If it costs less than $1k and is actually produced in large quantities, what do you think the likelihood is that the GTX and/or GTS will go down in price?

hmmmm... explains the vagueness on the 2900XTX preview on DailyTech about what "stock 8800" card was used. It was a stock 8800 Ultra.

The only other "stock" 8800 that uses a 650MHz core clock is the Water Cooled BFG 8800GTX OC.

my thought as well, been waiting on the r600 benches to upgrade, but I don't think I could spend $1000 on a video card. Maybe they will drop prices on the gtx a little.

True, they did say OCed... But the only factory OCed 650 core clock are the water cooled ones to my knowledge (unless again, it is something completely unavailable).
