Whoa, dude. Get a weapon, seriously. Whether it be a gun, a knife or a bat. If you leave your apartment, carry something with you. This is just insane. I would subdue the guy who attacks you, call the cops, and sue him for all he's worth.

Staying at your friends' places is a good idea but aren't you afraid that your property is being damaged while you're not there?

Invest in a weapon and have a buddy or two stay at your place. This way you're safe along with your stuff.

Also, set up a camera somewhere so you can have lasting evidence of who is showing up at your door.

i guess im confused as to why the landlord hates you and wants to ruin your life....were you late on rent?....is your knocked up GF his old GF/sister/mom?
this make no sense as to why a law abiding, rent paying, good person like you make yourself out to be, seems to be having this kind of trouble.....
something in this story is missing....

lemme guess, are you paying like $500 for an apartment that they could easily get $1,800 for now, post brooklyn gentrification?
I see that a lot, landlords trying to harass darkies out to get the post college whities into the hood.

What part of brooklyn are you in? I'm in bed-stuy, a hood chris rock was once terrified of.. now white girls in rainbow dresses ride uni-cycles down marcus garvey, paying $2000 rent while working $5 an hour jobs as assistants to fashion designers.. if the math doesn't work you're forgetting to factor in rich white entitlement to the equation.

Part 1

I got assaulted on Friday evening

I was packing and going in & out of the building to dump trash & junk

I opened my apt door & a big guy (5'10-5'11, 220-240lbs, large build) pulled me out by grabbing my shirt front. I saw a punch coming and was able to move my head just in time - so I got a glancing blow to the right side of my face (which gave me a red welt instead of a broken nose)

I punched him twice - the first one, left fist to his lip (effective) and a right fist to his stomach (missed, hit a rib/lower chest, ineffective)

He grappled me and wrestled me to the ground - his body weight on mine (I weigh 145lbs or so), which dislocated my right shoulder.

He got up, went (I want to say ran) for the building exit (10' away) - saying "Don't ever call the cops on no one again or I'll kill you"

I called 911 right away. They came along with an ambulance. Most of the cops were very helpful. I gave them as accurate a report as possible. The senior officer there (I notice he had a single stripe) said "I just don't see why someone tou don't know would do this - are you sure all this happened?" I guess he hadn't been listening closely to what I had to say before (mentioned all previous incidents with landlord including the verbal threats to my gf)

Notes:
Gf was already on Atlanta flight
Dogs were with my neighbor - pity, they would've helped

Part 2

Ambulance took me to the ER @ New York Methodist. Admitted at approx. 9pm. Long story short - the docs were able to put my shoulder back in at about 1:30am. Discharged at 4:45am.

Went home - my key would not open the apt. door. Something had been stuck inside the keyhole. Friend who was with me managed to climb in thru a window.

Spent the night in my apt with my friend - since then I have been forced to spend the night at my neighbor's, friends', cousins' homes - not that I'm scared, but it's hard to say no when friends & relatives start crying & telling you how worried they are.

I've moved out most of my stuff from the apt. into storage since the front door won't lock anymore.

This weekend I plan to go to Atlanta to drop off the dogs at my gf's mother's place - going to be quite a trip with a dislocated shoulder.

So ... more thoughts in a while, I'm at work - my boss is awesome - shoulder's driving me insane (trying to stay off pain killers)

EDIT: I not "living" in my apt anymore - staying with family & friends, even tho I really want to be back in my own place. I'd like to think that I can defend my own turf, but that's going to be hard with a dislocated right shoulder.

Vonkhan : What help do you need?

I wasn't saying that any of this was right. I'm a darkie myself and hate to see neighborhoods split apart... But it's the reality, rents in parts of new york are going up and dirty, rotten landlords are harassing people whom refuse to break lease to move out using terrible tactics.

Sorry for appearing brash, I didn't mean to imply that you DESERVED the harrasment, I'm just saying that it's a common tactic for landlords in developing neighborhoods. Harass people until they break the lease themselves.

What neighborhood did you live in?

OP - sorry to hear about your situation. Did the police question your landlord after the assault?

Curious, what's the current situation with the apt? You're month to month but he increased the rent but you refuse to pay the increase? You continue to pay the original rent and now all of this?

Border of Park Slope / South Slope

WOAW, buddies of mine live their and they're going through a similar situation:

1. Move in about 6 months ago
2. Landlord went to them 2 months in asking them for more rent, saying that his wife didn't ask for enough
3. They refused and the landlord asked them to move
4. They refused to move until the lease is over so now the landlord is doing everything less than illegal to get them out (playing loud music late at night, yelling at them for no good reason, telling them they can't have house guests after 10 pm.. )

Tell me it's not true - trust fund babies are taking over working class neighborhoods. it's just the reality.

dear god some cliffs...all the hospital and baby crap is irrelevant. Like in the last thread too...someone being pregnant has no bearing.

You neighbor was wrong to have dogs leashed out in front of an apartment though and if they did not have an agreement with the landlord for pets, in the wrong.

I also seriously can't see a place like this from your description of how you and your neighbors are going for $1475 yet alone $2000/month. I am sure you have escalated your rent.

Also if you did have you G/F and dogs on the lease it should be pretty straightforward...I am betting you didn't though. When pets are allowed, it doesn't mean you can just bring them in the dwelling...the landlord still has to be informed and often fees/deposits are required.

If your g/f was on the lease, then he can tell her anything he needs too. She is equally a tenant and equally responsible as any other tenant.

Sounds like you were really the one that started this war though. Being the cops won't do anything shows you are probably not being honest with us though either.

Sounds like you need to read his other thread and his current OP is pretty concise and doesn't need cliffs.

One more thing:

Take a lot of pictures, or better yet, take a movie of the apratment as you are leaving and make the time stamp is on and correct.

This is to ensure he cannot trash the place and then sue you for damages.
