I have one good friend and another 5 or so 'people I know' that got set up to live in NYC by their parents. They do not a whole lot of anything. One is a perpetual student, furniture trader. His parent's still float him like $10k a month (he's about mid 30's now).

Lot's in New York have more fucking money than they they what to do with.

reluctant to say that he's right in this regard...

great advice. then the OP spends a good chunk of his life in prison.

the OP should just get the hell out of there and move on with his life.

if he feels the need for "pay back", then do it through a lawyer and the courts, or with the help of the police.

I'd sue. The random attacker said never call the police again. Why would he say that?

Wow, why not jsut post the name and address of the landlord for us. And the phone number to.

IMHO that would really just cause the OP problems if he is telling the whole truth.

Hearsay though again, and why would he wait until he was running away and 10'+ to yell that where many could hear.

Doesn't make sense. If someone was already inside the place, why take it outside the place.

They should have done the deed, opened the door and simply left quietly. It's obvious even a semi-pro at 200lbs would cremate a 145lb dude. When I was weighing in at 189 wrestling I could just throw around those at that weight....those at 152, 160+ were harder.

Being I'd have surprise, I don't see how this ended like it did.

and how is entering into a conflict with a sociopathic landlord (anyone who hires a thug to bash someone meets my definition of sociopathic) going to help his girlfriend/ baby?

I'd say the OP needs to disengage from this conflict.

but perhaps he is enjoying it, at some level..?

I don't see how a lawsuit would even fly without something concrete to tie this to the landlord. Everything up to this point is hearsay. There is nothing documented by any law enforcement / other agency.

If this was a true story the OP should have moved out in July.

Having a dislocated shoulder and the hospital bill, along with having his mail withheld (a federal offense) should at the bare minimum carry a hefty fine.

where was it proven the LL was the assailant or stealing the mail?

You realize in court you can't just say 'it had to be him' and have a case, right?

The cops were called multiple times. There is a record of the landlord doing shady things to the O.P. that can be used in court. Top it off, the OP has witnesses (his neighbor) about the dog incident. Chances are that if the landlord acted that way to the O.P., then he has acted that way towards other tenants as well.

Weight is largely irrelevant in a fight...skill is by far the most important issue. I've had to fight quite a few times against opponents with 50-75lbs on me, or far more muscle. It's not as easy, sure, but it's still not the deciding factor.

In a sport, yeah, weight matters, because both participants are usually about the same skill level, so then any advantage becomes more important. But in a street fight, it's heart, then mind, then body. Skill trumps size every time.

I can guarantee in the State of New York, you can sue, and win very easily three times the amount of damage against a landlord.

For example, if you can prove he had someone assault you, and your medical bills were $10,000, you would win $30,000. A landlord may not change locks on you. If it costs you $100 hire a locksmith to get you back into your apartment, you will win $300. Definitely consult a lawyer over your events. If you can provide documentation, photos, witnesses of events and other information, you can win very easily.

Also, New York is VERY tenant friendly. As long as you can provide good documentation, I could guarantee any lawyer will pick this case up for a percentage of the money you collect.

Chuck Norris would bench press that elephant, then eat it for breakfast.

What OP should do is buy a gun and hide out in his room. When the landlord breaks in to do more vandalism, shoot the 'intruder'.
