I was practically dragged out of bed about 20 minutes ago, with my siblings saying JAKE WAS ATTACKED BY A DOG!! I haul myself out of bed, and head outside...my mother had him, and he's bleeding from his left thigh area (I think left..), his mouth is open and he's breathing fast. He meows once in a while, but it sounds strange..maybe because his mouth is open. If you would, please pray for him - he's a great cat (as are the other 2 we have)..I'll try to put a pic up if you like.
*The vet says he has a 50/50 chance, but he may be paralyzed..if so, he has to be put down.*
Our other cat came home, he's fine!
We think we know who's dog it was - it was a pit bull (not an assumption here..this was witnessed), and we have previously warned the owner (when he came to get his dog a while ago, we didn't know where he lived) that his dog was getting out of his fence. Apparently he hasn't done much about it.
*We think we found the house...no tresspassing signs, barking dogs*
This happened in the woods just behind/to the side of our house, btw..practically in our back yard.
Again, please pray that he's okay....thanks
Update from the vet
Jake's back is not broken, which is good. They don't know the extent of spinal cord damage, and he has a fractured sternum. Last I heard, he was still in critical condition, but doing better than he was at first.
Latest and final update (unless we catch the pit bull)
Yesterday morning, we received a phone call from the vet. Unfortunately the dog's attack had cut off the blood supply to Jake's leg, and gangrene had taken over. It was spreading to his body. We did all we could, but he had to be put down...
My mother came to pick me up from work, and I'm expecting to see the cat home, healing..but then I hear otherwise
