Very interesting development. While the 840 Pro sits at twice the price and has a tendency to self-destruct, it looks like Samsung is getting serious about competing on price with its 840, which by all accounts should be priced competitively.

Technically it is inferior, TLC vs. MLC, but in a real world scenario it's probably unnoticeable.

Definitely intended as a budget drive, not a successor to the 830.

Yup. And honestly I didn't get as much of a speed boost as I was expecting from my 830, so I'm pretty glad I didn't pay extra for a slower 840. Latency is up too with TLC.

Photoshop still takes around 5s to load, Starcraft still takes its sweet time to load both the game and individual maps... it's definitely a marked improvement, and reboots are awesomely fast now. Was really expecting Photoshop and Starcraft to be near-instant though. Oh well... maybe it'll get better after we dump this SATA silliness and get with the native PCIe program.
