Ewiz is really weird when it comes to their affiliates and pricing. Going through a certain link can net you free shipping (although at a higher price) like here.

If shipping is ~$10-11 you save a few bucks in the end. They usually have a $5 off coupon floating around that changes every month too, not sure if they still do that, maybe somebody here knows of one now that coupon codes are allowed.

Personally, without a $5 off coupon I'm not so sure it's worth it, for the same price or just a little more you can get a decent 754/939 board and those chips can be found cheap.

A friend gave me a 3GHz P4 Prescott CPU a few months ago and I bought this motherboard to mount it on. I'm also using an AGP Geforce 6600GT (haven't tried onboard video) and 2GB (2x1GB) of PC3200 DDR memory. I'm using this computer as a test PC and have installed Win2K, WinXP, Windows Server 2003, MythDora Linux, CentOS linux, Ubuntu linux, Solaris 10, etc., and it has worked well with all. Have also used with an assortment of analog tuner and HDTV tuner PCI cards in Windows and MythDora and have had no problems. I haven't tried to overclock the CPU and haven't even looked to see what options are available for overclocking.

I would definitely recommend this motherboard if you have spare parts laying around and want to build up a PC.

Anybody seen a decent priced RDRAM motherborad from that era (2001).
I have the CPU and 750GB of RDRAM collecting dust.

Wow, that's a lot of RAM!

If you need a motherboard that supports PC600/PC800 RDRAM, then something with an Intel i850 chipset will probably work. I've never purchased anything from them, but a Pricewatch search turned up a company named American Design Components, Inc. that lists the Intel D850EMV2 motherboard for $89. Link

Here's a link to Intel's support site for the motherboard: Link

I was in the exact same situation a few years ago (only had 512MB RDRAM, though) and bought this motherboard to build a computer for my younger brother. It worked well enough, but the motherboard died after about 18 months.

Dammit I was hoping to get a cheaper 478 mATX for my computer so I can fit it in my new case, but the price jumped....at least for me $44.80...

It's up to $46.65 now with free shipping. Any $5.00 off promo codes out there?

Not so weird, really. A lot of resellers do this through affiliate/referral systems. It might save a couple bucks, it might cost a couple bucks more, depending on the regular shipping cost to any given locale.

I've compared numerous items at eWiz with and without the referral discount or special shipping, mostly it has come to the same price within $1 or less. But I live about two hours from eWiz's warehouse, so the regular shipping is a few bucks cheaper than it would be for someone several states away. e.g. shipping for this board via UPS Ground is $8.10 for me

What I like about eWiz is that you will save hugely on shipping the more items you purchase, unlike Newegg where you get no discount on shipping when buying multiple items. e.g.

I purchased eight memory modules (DDR-II and DDR) from eWiz several weeks ago, the final shipping charge was only a couple bucks more than the initial shipping for one module. One module = $6.88, eight modules = $8.08 (UPS Ground)

Purchasing two of the ASRock boards increases shipping to $9.09, three = $11.51, four = $12.18.

Newegg is great if buying one item, but will kill you on shipping if buying multiple items or units unless they are free shipping specials.

I've got 3 Socket 478 Biostar P4-m80-m4 motherboards (mATX, integrated video, audio, lan) that are brand new I'm selling for $38 on FS/T. Can PM if the eWiz deal is a no go for you! Thanks.

On topic: It's a good deal for an intel chipset 478 mobo which is getting harder and harder to find for your old P4s.
