Alright, I'm finally done ordering stuff for now. Final haul - Madden '11, both Ratchet and Clanks, Demon's Souls, one extra Dualshock 3, and one extra Move controller. Whoops, didn't mean to spend that much.Metal Gear has always been overrated. Luckily it isn't anywhere near the top of games you should check out.
As far as media server goes, I just turn my laptop on and the PS3 connects, no software needed. I tried using PS3 Media Server and it was terrible and really didn't add anything that Windows can't already do. To people that say Xbox is better, how? I honestly can't see it working any easier than selecting a playlist. It's like 2 clicks, how can Xbox do it easier?
The PS3 also automatically connects to my computer, but it's useless to me since it is unable to play .mkv's that way. PS3MS adds plenty beyond .mkv transcoding, including bandwidth limiting (although I won't be using that), subtitles options, etc. And I never have any issues with it. The regular way works fine for music, obviously.
