Absolutely love Merrell's. Own quite a few and for the price, they last really well.

For serious work boots i have Red Wings right now.

For more casual abuse though (and easier on the pocketbook) i love my Merrells.

Red Wings were the best work boots, at least when I bought them. Still have mine after 12 years, 6 of which were in the Navy getting serious abuse.

If you don't regularly treat your boots it will fall apart when abuse, specially if you work in wet condition.

I've destroyed a pair of chokerman in 1 season in Northern BC, because I didn't have a second pair to let it dry out. The woodsman each lasted roughly 2 seasons, however they are uncomfortable as hell.

Nothing beats a good pair of jackboots!

I had a pair of those rip apart on me in 3 months. There is no best boots, it really depends on your environment you expose them too and the design of the particular model...which changes almost yearly.
If your shoveling in gravel while standing in water, well that's a huge stress difference to a boot compared to say, walking around on gravel in the rain.
Some boot designs have better tolerance to certain working conditions and crouching positions.
I have used every major brand in my 15 years in year round utility construction, I realized that all the premium brands are good to various extents and I can now pin point specific boot designs and seams that I know won't last long for me. I bet I spend over $400 a year on work boots. Every one will have a different experience regardless of the brand of boot but in my work, no leather nor synthetic can last much over 1.5 years at my job so it's not their fault.

Again...boots are very ymmv. Most of us only need them to go through 20 feet of parking lot. Guys like you are the ones who torture test the things. I'm just glad its not me out there

These things are going back though. They don't breath at all even though I asked the sales moron 4 times if they did. Why lie to me? I never asked about price. I just said I needed a pair of Merrell boots that wouldn't sweat my feet out.

Fucking jerk.

I just bought a pair of Muck boots the other day. Spent a few hours outside at 20 degrees F., and my feet were toasty warm. Very lightweight, snug but stretchable fit over the calf, to allow pants to be easily tucked in. I stood in about 6 inches of ice water for a few minutes while out hunting, just to get a feel for how well they'll keep my feet warm. Quite happy with them.

Fancy. I have a 15 year old pair of heavy leather with wool insulation boots for when it's fvcking freezing or when there's lots of snow and I need better traction than gym shoes.

I am not a fan of merrels, (they are usually worn by young teen/hipster/nazi douchebags in NYC) but those look like a good everyday winter office workboot.

I was going to use last year's boots this year but they are 100% waterproof and just too damn warm to wear indoors.

Hopefully these guys will breath a little better!

I knew those were the ones you'd buy...you seemed to like them SO much...and dammit, they looked good on you!

Just recently ordered a pair of these to try out. I almost got the Rocky H.A.M's for the gore tex waterproof, very tall and look tougher than anything else I've seen. I kinda wish I got them instead now but I figured these might be more comfortable with the higher heel.

I do really like Muckboot. Goin on the second winter in mine so that's roughly 8 months of wear in now. However they do make my feet sweat, my toes still get pretty cold in them at work but I often can't do much walking so that may be the problem. I think the ability to stay moving is key to keep my feet warm but it's not often I get to much. They are definitely comfortable though and 100% submersible in water all the way to the top and tougher than I originally thought.

It's hard to find a waterproof boot that doesn't make my feet sweat, I usually do ok with some baby powder in them. I have been told I should try non insulated, supposedly won't sweat, I have my summer boots to test but not wanting to risk 10 hours of torture if my feet freeze anyway.

ok so don't buy the boots in the OP if you like dry feet.

The only things I said I needed were Merrell boots and boots that won't make my feet sweat. I already have a pair that are waterproof and warm, just needed something for work.

Guess I start shopping for shoes on Amazon. I hate dealing with 20 year old mall morons.

I just suddenly thought of something....maybe feet sweating isn't the problem, maybe it's actually condensation, at least when outside in the cold? Not sure what to do about that though.

Nope. It took a few hours after coming in. My feet were burning up.

I wanted Moab Vents but the mall weasel said these were the same thing.

Yes, girls can wear them, but they are work boots, and is very heavy (over 2 Kgs each pair).

IMHO, the perfect footwears are sandals and flip-flops for hot climates.
