200 bucks for 16gb, 300 for bold AFTER MIR

next

After a mail in rebate that could be lost in the mail or apple simply refusing to honor the postage stamp. Yup. I have never and will never do MIRs. Still, $200 for a cell phone? Screw that! My phone was practically free. Practically free > 200 damn dollars!

Instead of people defending the iPhone, why not iPhone users try to convince others why they should bother upgrading to the iPhone? Sell us on it. Please, try.

$200 flat out, no rebates of any kind, I was just in the store today to upgrade to the iphone 3gs

Cool, I hope you like it. I'll take the $199.99 that I didn't pay for my phone and go buy a ton of beer and stick with my awesome no-bullshit flip phone

I used to have several Nokia candybars but I found the keypad lock not to work so well and I'd end up pressing buttons and ruining the keypad anyway when I'd bump into stuff. I actually broke a button on my 6610 doing that :brokenheart:

As for sliders, I had one single slider from Kyocera. It had buttons not only under the sliding screen, but on the phone face below the screen as well. I couldn't dial a specific number, but there was no keypad lock and I was able to press the send key (on the front of the phone, exposed, even when the phone is closed) twice to redial like a mofo.

I just got tired of dealing with that crap. A flip phone works perfectly

I'm being forced to test an iPhone for my business and I can't stand the damn thing. I could see using one for personal purposes, but I believe the people pushing for iPhones in the business don't give a shit about how it will help them actually DO business, just make them look trendy.

My 4yo really likes it though, only one button to have to push, stuff moves around when you touch the screen, OOH SHINEY!

Picked up a 16GB white 3GS on release weekend, been enjoying it so far. I like that calendar, notes, and contacts are synced with Outlook. Currently have 2 imap and 1 pop account running off it. Don't have an exchange server to play with but from what I've read push really kills battery life. On fetch every 30 minutes, wifi and 3G enabled, and 2-4 hours of usage, I can go about 24 hours before charging.

Frequently use ESPN, WSJ, facebook, amazon, yelp, Weather Channel, i.TV, wiki, and cragslist. Really like the integration with addresses and phone numbers between contacts, safari, maps, yelp, etc.

Big gripe is that voice commands won't work over bluetooth. My plan to add bluetooth calling to my car has been ruined.

Also don't like that not all chargers will work with iphone. The original idea was to use this as my ipod in the car so I could replace my old nano, but now I don't think that's going to happen, since I'm not crazy over playing the guessing game on which headunit will actually charge an iphone.

And I don't like AT&T. But ah well.

Voice commands don't work over bluetooth??? That is seriously weak. That's the main reason for voice commands so you can call people or play music while it's in your pocket/holster.

Voice commands over BT will be supported in OS 3.1, which is already out there in beta.

I just got rid of mine. I'm giving it to my dad so he can use it as for music and the fishing app.

I pay $40 per month you mindless financially moronic drone.

How do you pay $40 per month? I just talked to an AT&T rep, and he offered me $53 per month (and that's with the corporate discount and 2 year contract for just one phone). Not AT&T?

an excellent question...

data is 21 after corp
voice is ~35

so the lowest you could do with corp discount (as far as I can tell) is 56 + tax

Unless you run a business...which would drop it to ~40/month cash out the door

I mean seriously, what are you beefs with the iPhone, and what is the better alternative that solves ALL of your issues with the iPhone?

Quick story... Almost 2 years ago our company hired a dedicated 'Mac tech' to handle the graphics floor. This guy lived and breathed everything Apple - the dude in the 'I'm a Mac' commercials? He could be that guy! He had a personal iPhone in addition to the company assigned BlackBerry (we all had a BB of one flavor or another). He showed us his iPhone and we all came away with the same impression - cool multimedia device but lame as a phone and terrible for Email/SMS.

Fast forward a year... We've all moved on to the iPhone and to a person admit we couldn't have been more wrong. Yes, it does have it's flaws and limitations but they are *far* outweighed by the multitude of things it can do and do very well. I'd like to note that it is difficult to type on *at first* but once you get used to it (takes a few days) you'll never go back.

I  my iPhone.

As far as apps go...

Free

Pandora
iHeartRadio
Facebook
Shazam
The Weather Channel and/or Weather Bug
Google Earth
MLB.com
Flixter
A Free Level
Flashlight
FML

I paid for

IM+ w/Push ($4.99)
Gas Cubby (I think I paid $4.99 but it's $9.99 now)
Touch Term ($.99)

$140/month? With our work discount of $14/month my wife's plan will be $61.99 + tax/fee and that includes unlimited data and 200 SMS messages per month. So you're not only an idiot, you're wrong.

I got one recently... only thing I don't like about it is that it stops sending and receiving data when the screen is turned off (sleeping). This is a bit annoying when it comes to running an IM program on your phone... especially when you turn your phone back on and it takes 1-3 minutes to connect again. Not very instant .

You need beejive 3.0
The new Trillian Iphone app is looking pretty tight too, supposed to be push enabled also.

I love the people going off in this thread on this phone. Damn guys it's a $199 phone with a $70 a month plan, if you pay $20 a month less.. good for you! This isn't like he's spending $47,000 on some useless Fad SUV.
