Well I finally saved up enough money for a car. Kinda sad that I could not afford one until now when I'm 21, but hey at least I got a nice one.

I managed to find a great deal on a 1993 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas. The car is so nice. Amazing interior, lots of wood and leather w/ power everyhting. It's also a rwd with a lot of power, especially once it gets past about 20-25mph (it's a HUGE car 4050LB) so it doesn't take off that well but once it gets to 20 it will fly.

Hopefully I'll be able to save up some money for an improved stereo system soon.

Nice car, but I suggest you plan on spending a pretty penny maintaining it - early '90's Jags are not exactly known for their mechanical fortitude, and it will not be cheap to fix.

93 jaguar? you dont know what kind of mechanical problems that may have...or may inherent. i wouldve said get an early 90's bmw cause they tend to hold up a lil better on the mechanical side. but if you dont mind paying maintenance, its still a VERY nice car.

Actually the 93s are not bad at all. Jaguar switched to a new platform in 88 which continued on untill 94. The 88 and 89 cars were total pieces of crap. The 90 and 91s were more reasonable and were about as reliable as a 90 or 91 ford. However by 1992 the quality control had been drastically removed and many of the substandard parts, especially those made by Lucas Electronics were replaced with higher quality Bosch parts. By 1992 the number of faults per 100 cars was down by 80%. I also had the car thoroughly inspected by a trusted mechanic who found no serious problems with it.

I would love to get a BMW but the only reason that I was able to buy the Jag was because of its low resale value. For what I payed for the car I would only be able to get a 1989 or MAYBE 1990 525 or a 1990 3 series, which were the tiny boxy ones.

I totally plan on spending a significant ammount of money of the routine maintainance required to keep the Jag in good shape. The ABS, power steering, and transmition fluids all need to be changed regualrly and it needs fuel system treatments and other such things to stay in good shape but I know that and am willing to pay for it.

When it came down to it I basically had 4 cars that I could afford to buy

That Jaguar

An early 90s Lincoln Towncar

A 93 Lincoln Mark VIII

A 94 or 95 Ford Countour SE

After test driving the Jag I just could not get any of those other cars as none of them have the ride quality or style of the Jag and only the Mark VIII outperforms it.

Oh Yeah, pimpin' in a Jag. If you have good luck with it, you will be a luxury car man for life

I'm hoping that the car stays in good shpae over the next 3 years. If at that time it is still doing well I will try to buy another and keep it as a weekend car and than as a classic in a few years.

Hopefully I'll be able to afford a nice toy in three years like a Camaro Z28 or SS with a stick, or maybe a fun little convertible like a Miata or MR2 Spyder, or if I actually have real money a BMW of some sort.
