Sorry, but if that's what they said (I didn't spend enough time reading the review to find that phrase), they're wrong. You can't combine ports to make two single link DVI ports into one dual link DVI port using some cable or adapter. The card may have one single link and one dual link port, but to do what is suggested with the wording used in that phrase is simply not possible as far as I'm aware.
The ports on my model(s) of the XFX 7800GT aren't single link, they are dual DVI. Whether that means they can run in dual link DVI configuration is the pertinent question. The lack of standardized nomenclature in video graphics doesn't help. XFX describes the card as featuring:
Dual DVI Support--Able to drive the industry's largest and highest resolution flat-panel displays
Sounds like Dual Link DVI to me, but you can bet I'll confirm it before I purchase a 30" panel.

Sorry but thats not Dual Link DVI.....thats just saying that it supports 2 panels. The 2405 is a high resolution panel so what they are saying is correct. However they are not saying that it has Dual Link Dvi output. My 7800gt XfX would not run my 30". Im guessing that XFX did not add a Dual Link DVI output. EVGA however did add one to their 7800gt.

All 7800gtx's has 1 Dual link DVI out.

You might be right. I just noticed that XFX describes the "Extreme Edition" the same way. Still, if you run the XFX comparison between the 7800GT Extreme Edition (PV-T70G-UDE7) and the plain vanilla 7800GT (PV-T70G-UDF7) (of which I have a pair), one of the diferences noted is that the regular 7800GT is "Dual DVI Out." That's weird since both cards have dual DVI outputs in the photos. Just so you don't think I'm crazy, go here.

How are the black levels and response time compared to the 2405fpw (in person, not specification wise) , Ive heard both are alittle worse on the 30" ?

Most 7800GT(X)'s should have at least one dual-link DVI port (I've heard people say some cards don't have dual-link DVI - don't know how though, since it looks like the 7800's don't use an external TMDS). For eVGA's 7800 series cards, the bottom DVI port is the dual-link one. I believe ATI's latest cards have 2 dual-link ports (not sure if all of them do).

Does that mean you wont see POST / BIOS options either? ..being it uses the same resolution as DOS.

Oh ******. I have an XFX 7800GT, and I've got a 3007 coming my way. :frown:

I was certain it has a single dual-link DVI port, I made it very sure before I made my purchase. Are you sure you tried both ports? I believe the dual-link port is always the one closest to the motherboard.

I do miss having the extra connections since i did have my xbox 360 connected to the 2405 however......the size makes up for it. I just put the 360 to my plasma for the time being. I will be looking into ways of somehow getting the 360 to play on the 30" though.

I may just pick up a pair anyway...I dunno. Having had a 30" ACD, I know I love the real estate (and the ACD is just plain sexy anyway), but I'm not sure I need more 30" LCDs in the house.

Very nice monitor, the only thing is that you can buy almost 3 2405's if you get a good enough Dell coupon deal for the same price as one of the new 30inchers.

Looks VERY nice.

I run a 24" Dell and a 23" Sony. Love the wideness. The 30" would be SWEET but I'm not forking over £250 for a graphics card and THEN a mobo + cpu £250 to have the graphics card to run the LCD.

Can't really justify £500 and then the cost of the monitor...selling my two monitors the extra few 100' would be anything too bad but the cost and hassle to setup a new system would just be over kill...

DVD would look kind of poor.

They look kinda ropey on my 1920x1200 res. They'd look WORSE on a 2560x1600! I think this is why they did not include any other connections as they knew it would like ass. The scaler will have a hell of a time to make the image quality decent even from a 1080p source....

Koing, so purchasing a 2407 would not be a good idea to watch DVD movies on? I currently watch DVDs on a 19" CRT and they look great.

ya same as above, id also like to know if the 2405/2407 is good for watching dvds and HDTV rips.

im currently on a 19" crt also and thinking of going 2405.

watching dvds and hdtv rips is a major part of the upgrade.
