Once again, thanks for all the help w/ this. This is my 4th build and you guys have been an incredible help on each, this one being no different.

It will be used for online poker (I'll be going pro Feb. 1), gaming, & general use.

That said, here she is and I'm looking for final input/thoughts before I pull the trigger tomorrow/Saturday.

Case: CM Stacker 830

Mobo: ABIT IP35 Pro

CPU: Q6600

Video Card(s): 8800GT SSC and cannibalizing my current 7900GT as well to run all my monitors. Going to step up the 8800GT when the new 8800GTS's come out next month.

PSU: PC Power & Cooling 750 Quad

RAM: Corsair XMS2 (buying one set and cannibalizing the 2Gig set that's in this rig as well for 4 Gig total)

HDD's: 2- Seagate 320G, as well as cannibalizing my 74Gig Raptor from this rig and also using one more Seagate 320G for backup (external)

DVD Burners: 2- Samsung DVD burners

OS: Vista Ultimate 64 (got a good deal on the upgrade, plus don't have to wait a couple of weeks for the 64 bit DVD)

CPU Cooling: Tuniq Tower!!!

Case Fans: 6 - Yate Loon D12SM 120mm Fans

Monitors: Gateway 30" XHD3000 & dual 20
Dell 2001FP's in portrait.

So there she is. Thoughts/suggestions/help/feedback/drool would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I really don't know much about (nor know if I need) is a fan controller. The Yate Loons are not loud and I don't mind the "noise" from this rig, so is this really needed?

Thanks again to all those that helped out! I promise pics next weekend after she's built!

thats a top rig mate!

good future proofing with the quad core, cant go wrong with 4 gigs of ram (ram is dirt cheap nowadays compared to a year or two ago)

might want to throw in a second 8800GT once you get enough money, youll need it for that 30" gateway if you want to play the latest games.

The PSU is overkill, though I suppose it might come in handy if you plan to run two 8800GTs

6 case fans? Are you good at mapping aerodynamic flows? If not, I suspect that so many fans will do more harm than good.

Apart from that, the rig looks fine.

I really like that case. I believe I will get one for my next computer. Thanks for the post.

and noisy with that little fan. Look at Corsair, Seasonic, Antec with 120mm exhaust fans.

Why limit to 320gb? 500gb is the current $:gb sweet spot.

yeah i agree, 6 120MM fans might be a little overkill unless you know what your doing.

Well, w/ 2 front fans, 4 on the door and a rear fan, I'm going to play around w/ it and see what gives the most efficient setup.

I really like that case. I believe I will get one for my next computer. Thanks for the post.

Thanks! My buddy has one and SWEARS by it. So I'm sold. I'll give a review after she's built next wknd.

I currently own another of the PC P&C 750 Quad and it's DEAD silent. I think you might be hard pressed to find a better, quieter PSU on the market. It's basically this or the Corsair 620.

And I may go w/ 500gb route. Good call there!

Thanks for all the feedback fellas and I hope maybe this might help others w/ their decisions, as all the homework I did on all the parts took me @ 3.5 weeks and I'm THRILLED w/ this setup. I just can't wait to see that Gateway in action!!!

Thanks

All told, she cost me $4058.60 ($1837.04 with out the monitors though) and I'm thrilled. That's everything from Vista OS to the Yate Loon fans and everything else.

Everything but the monster Gateway XHD3000 will be here in time to build for the weekend.

I promise pics etc. once she's up and running!

Alrighty...

Everything is here except for my honey of a monitor (XHD3000) which will be here Thursday, so time to build and OC.

I'll be back up Sat or Sun so will have pics then!

The 320GB drive will be on sale for $59 on Black Friday at Best Buy. Can't beat that for for the $.

Um, have you seen the case? It's full of so many vents and holes that the traditional ATX airflow design doesn't apply at all. So having 4 120mm fans on the side blowing directly onto the motherboard, CPU and video card are quite good for cooling.

IMO it's quite pricey for what you get though. It's not a $250 case in my book.

He'd be better off paying $100 for an Antec 900 which offers similar stacker design yet has a large 200mm fan for cooling and also includes three 120mm fans. All of which have fan control on them.

250 for a case?

You're crazy. Drop the case. You don't need an aluminum case unless you carry your computer around everywhere. Steel works just as well.

Drop the case for a cheaper one and get a nice sound card.

How about $230 for a LianLi 1100? Yes I was crazy. It's beautiful but not a good cooler. Along with this case, I got a pcp&c 510 which was noisy as hell. Exchanged it for a pcp&c 610 which was not quite as loud but not quiet and finally dumped it for a Corsair 620. Now it's quiet but still not a good cooler. At least the op's stacker830 will be a good cooler and has the potential to be quiet with lots of 120mm fans volt mod'd.

OP: Good luck with your build. I'm very envious of the gw30" and, along with everyone, will be interested in how everything turns out. What case fans did you select?

Well, I made a small mistake...

I had built my gf's rig last Xmas and THAT'S where I used the XMS2 DDR2 800 RAM...in my old rig, it had PC3200 RAM...grrrr. So had to order 2 more stix of RAM, so by Thursday it will be complete (along w/ my hoss of a monitor being here).

So in the mean time, here are the pics of the rig, in work and up and running. Still gotta work on the cable management, but meh. And haven't OC'd yet, so when I do, I'll report temps/speeds etc. But not going for too much...

Enjoy.

Reminds me of how much I want two TFT monitors to replace my ageing 17" CRT, even if I don't really need two...
