where does this compare to other 24"s? i've been looking at the LG L226WTQ and the Samasung 226BW 22"s for the same price. What is the better buy?

It's a bottom tier TN panel.

I personally wouldnt touch it with a ten foot pole, but some people can live with it and I say more power to them.

Congrats on joining the 24" club. You're lucky you have a GTX, my 2900XT struggles.

Don't make false claims.

The Soyo uses the p-mva AU Optronics M240UW01 V0 Panel.

As per this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...key=y&keyword1=Soyo+24 .

He's correct. The Soyo 24 incher is a P-MVA panel made by AU Optronics, which is the parent company of BenQ. This means that the monitor has the potential to be very good. Quality control and the quality of other parts (such as the backlighting and whatnot) remain to be answered. However, the panel itself is P-MVA, and you can tell by looking at the monitor from an angle. The colors do not distort as much and the viewing angle seems a bit better than many of the TN panels that I would look at in a store.

I stand corrected. Many apologies.

I'll second that. This is definitely not a TN. I've run it through every test I could think of and enough gradients to boggle the mind. No backlight bleedthrough or ghosting to my eyes. I think it's a great value. The only real unknown is how long it will last. I'm hoping mine makes it well into the office max replacement plan I got along with it. I actually paid less for this than I did for my 19" lcd over 3 years ago.

Oh, and to the OP. Congrats! For wallpapers, I usually go to interfacelift.com

Agreed - as far as visual quality, the Soyo is great. The only unknown is the longetivity. However Soyo has been around a while, and they are now heavily in the LCD TV markets, with LCDs up to 47", so I think that the electronics should be OK. It does come with a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer, although the OfficeMax warranty is a lot shorter. Here are the specs from Soyo for this monitor:

Hehe, they still haven't corrected the technical specs. It should be 0.27mm pixel pitch not 0.285mm. Don't know how that got in there but 3dgameman has the right specs on his site.

Also, about the warranty, it was my understanding that upon purchase you had 14 days to return or exchange, then you were on Soyo's one year warranty, after which, the OfficeMax replacement plan kicks in for up to 2 years (depending how much you paid). That makes a maximum total coverage of 3 years, at least, that was my understanding. Also, some credit cards can extend the warranty but I'm not very clear on how that works.

if you buy with a premium credit card [e.g. Visa "gold"], the Credit card's insurer extends the manufacturer's warranty for [up to] an extra year.

i bought a Dell inspiron that failed out of warranty. Visa sent me $750 to fix it at a repair shop [after giving them estimates]
