I read all of that article, it was pretty funny, reminds me of my college days at Wal-mart, and working with managers that were too afraid to say anything bad about the company.

Used to be Rat Shack's #1 customer in my town. LOL! I would buy coaxial cable, electronic parts, scanners (Police scanner), antennas and all that rot.

Radio Shack ran a commercial during last years super ball I think it was saying we are going back to the 80's like we used to or something. Well, no they haven't. I was just sitting in front of Radio Shack today with my venti chi latte from Tenbucks having a smoke and looking at Radio Shack and seeing all the cell phones I said to myself, 'wow, how things change.' 'I used to be their number one customer. Now look at this shit.'

If you want a police scanner you go online. If you want a electronic part you go online. If you want an antenna you go online.

But I digress. The common police scanner is now a $500 sophisticated mini digital computer capable of decoding P25 digital trunked communications. And with /\/\otorola pushing digital on all public safty it's easy to flip the encryption switch. If you live in Bismark ND. BISMARK ND! You are SOL on hearing the local FD. They are encrypted. Can you believe that?

There used to be a small electronics shop in my town when i was a kid. I used to rent nes and snes games from them. They went out of business many years ago but i will always remember the building as that store. Hell, i can still remember the names and faces of the employees that worked there. Thats no small feat for me as i cant remember half the names of the people i used to work with just a few years ago. I guess they and the store made that much of an impression on me when i was a kid. I even remember i wanted to work there when i got older.

When your local Family Dollar has a SanDisk 8gb usb drive for $10 then Radio Shack a quarter mile down the road has the same exact one going for $20 then you know something is wrong. This is a true story as i needed one.:|

I went in there a few times looking for ps2 to usb and other related items and Radio Shack never had them,i swear the one here is so dead the only reason why its open is cause its a mob front to launder money.

I saw a 4550 512mb card last year sitting on the shelf in that store, had a $89 price on it and so much dust on it i swear its sat there since new when it got released.I don't know how or when but the thing is no longer there.:sneaky: I doubt anyone was stupid enough to buy it.

Radioshack: "You've got questions, we've got blank stares."

The one at my store, idk how he got there but you get nothing.I have asked where the hdmi cables are and i get a"i think they are over there" with a point lol. Seeing him away from behind the counter is like seeing big foot.

I think there is a bed in the back,or hell he might be the owner cause the car is always there and he never leaves.Maybe he works and gets free rent?

Bum... every couple of years I need a refill on white paste flux, and they're the only place on the planet that seems to carry it. Guess I'll have to switch to rosin

Great read. Thanks, OP!

Though I rarely go there, I'll be sad to know there's no more Radio Shack where I can run and pick up an electrical / electronic component.

yep the little card you carried around

 Those batteries were pretty crappy, but for free there were worth it. I had a small pile of those cards back when. Gawd this stuff makes me feel old, but it also brings the other memories that make me smile.

They should make a new radioshack TRS-80 computers and sell them.

that article is fucking amazing

just now read it. Personally I think the guy is a dumbass. You can make more at McD's than this guy says he made. I assume there must have been times where he made something to eat off of but the reason companies treat employees like this at all is because the employees allow it.
Now if it was a decent wage job I can see why employees might ignore some abuse but seriously what a retard.

I think 2013. I needed some connectors. It's very convenient but the electronics hobbyist is a rare breed these days.

Yea, that's the bad part, for the person who still solders, replaces parts and fixes things having a RS nearby was a godsend. Now we'll all have to order online at Parts express or possibly Mouser and sit and wait.

Yea, it sucks, we were avid scanner listeners but as everyone has switched to all-digital systems there is less and less to listen to. In case you didn't know there is a decent scanner app in the Google playstore for free, what it does is let you listen from other users who have a scanner running and they send it to the app so one can listen to many different areas. I remember in the early '90's when cordless phones used frequencies that our scanner was able to tune in on, we lived in a large Apt. complex so the listening was a lot of fun!. Weather they were fighting, ordering pizza or ordering phone-sex we were able to hear it all!, ahh, good times.

Not sure but you mean by this but I agree. On all counts. On the stuff they've tried to get away with and also how the writer stayed with them through those tough times. And I enjoyed the sarcastic writing style as well.

Honestly when was the last time you bought something from RS?

Probably 6 months ago, think I needed a splitter cable for a couple speaker or something fast.

Used to use them more for a few things, but they are going the route of my wifes travel agency she used to manage.

Online is too easy to maintain some things forever.

Fortunately, she has found a better spot now and moving up pretty fast in a well established financial firm, but her experience from managing that has helped her recover pretty fast.

I ight have to look for something soon myself considering I'm in the same boat from a few years ago, she going to pass me soon.
