i would have to say take it bro, except that the fact that no medical insurance kinda sucks . I just landed my job 3 weeks ago doing software engineering in maryland, w/a BS in Computer Science, and it too was a little below what I was looking for. However, when I consider the other benefits, such as the holiday schedule (we get the week off between xmas and new years off, as well as 2 weeks paid vacation), the insurance, the 2 bonuses (one is 1.5% and one is profit sharing, atleast 6%, last year was 14%), and the flexibility, it didnt make me think twice. Not to mention the experience on my resume will be awesome, and it honestly is in the direction I would like my career to go as well. Right now I'm doing CAD development for a middle sized CAD program, and I would like to eventually work with special effects in movies, or possibly at a company like Pixar. And I know most of those places use about 90% of inhouse designed programs, so this CAD experience right now is perfect.
it took me about 2 months to find a job, as I graduated in May and start looking in about July, and yes this is in 04. I was looking for atleast $50K, but I landed 45K. i shouldn't even say "BUT" however since considering my benefits and what not, it will amount to over $50k/yr, and I have asthma so I get an inhaler about once a month so the medical insurance saves me some $$$. And when I told them that I was looking for $50k/yr I told them I had done research and that was the lower side of the average starting salary in my field in this area, and he was glad to see i did my research. he then told me that w/bonuses it will most likely accumulate to that, so its all good.
and right now i can't be happier. the people here are great, and everyone always checks in to make sure everything is going well and what not. i say take it
