Finally saw Avatar tonight with my wife and some close friends

Holy crap! What a great movie! I absolutely loved it...kind of predictable but visually it is just incredible and the story definitely sucks you in and makes you feel for the population of the planet. Of course, the green, anti-war message is one I happen to agree with.

If you haven't seen it, and I can't imagine anyone hasn't, go see it...right now. Well, what are you waiting for!!!

As a side note, I loved the reference to unobtanium...a rare substance highly sought after in the cycling community as a material to make bicycle frames out of.

Avatar = Pocahontas in space.

I'm conflicted on the movie. Worth it for the effects (no point in watching if not in 3D, imo), but the storyline was weak, the characters had no depth, and I felt like it was a little too pushy with its message.

/shrug.

Edit: I'm biased though, because I hate Papyrus with a passion. As soon as it popped up as the subtitle font I rolled my eyes and was like "You have to be kidding me".

I like Cameron's movies (in fact, I just watched The Abyss for the first time about two weeks back), and I don't have a problem with visually stunning movies with weak stories (I like Sky Captain), but there's just something about this movie that is a big turnoff to me. Maybe its the lack of Bill Paxton and/or Michael Biehn?

Same here. I put it on my zip list (Canadian Netflix clone) and will eventually see it but I'm in no hurry.

You really should catch it at a theater. Blu-Ray on projector screen still won't compare to the 3D IMAX experience :awe:

Yeah I know but like I said I'm not all that interested in it to be honest. Besides with it now being the all time biggest grossing film I'm sure they will re-release it in IMAX again at some point. Right now we are trying to watch ALL our films through zip.ca to save on money (and this way we get to watch all the films we are interested in).

I felt that way about Titanic and I never saw that movie in theaters because of the hype and the fact that I didn't like Leo (I've since changed my mind about him BTW) but this movie is different.

I highly recommend it...seriously.
