It was kind of "stunt casting" since at the time it was a much different movie from the historical dramas that until then she was known for. Could someone better suited for the role might have been found at the time but I didn't think she ruined the part.
I didn't think she ruined the part, but she wasn't as believably raw as Brad Pitt and Edward Norton were. She also had a twang to her American accent.
Rosie was just butt-hurt that she didn't get the part of Marla

Eww...
God, that trailer. I thought it was another "check out the new flick featuring Brad Pitt TOPLESS!" job.
(yes, I rushed straight to the cinema then! joke)
I just read an article outlining how at the first exec screening, the execs were totally shocked and speechless... and then proceeded to market it to WWE fans, etc.
That said, I don't remember the original trailer being especially horrible, unlike the original trailer of Ghostbusters 2016. I went back to watch an original trailer just now on YouTube, and they did retain some of the sarcastic tone for the trailer. The main issue I'd have with that trailer is that it gave away too much of the movie. However, I'm not sure if it's the truly original trailer, or just one of the trailers from 1999.
