I'm actually referring to Intel with Kentsfield. 65nm Kentsfield samples are already out and I have no doubt Intel will ramp up 45nm well before AMD.

And before anyone spouts off about me being a fanboy... I was spot on about Intel having 65nm up and running before AMD, despite the bevy of criticism I took.

Agreed on the 45nm ramp...Intel is predicting to have 45nm ~6months before AMD, though AMD IS closing the process gap.

I'd doubt 6 months unless amd pulls it off perfectly and/or Intel runs into trouble...

They had announced at the conference call that 45nm would be released 18 months after 65nm...that puts it at mid 2008 (about 6 months after Intel starts shipping 45nm...).

Fair enough...though they did turn out 45nm SRAMs just 3 months after Intel did.

True. Unfortunately for AMD, they can't afford to switch processes as aggressively as Intel because they need decent yields to be able to meet demand. It's not like they can basically shutdown a fab retool it and then start from horrible yields and ramp up gradually.

AMD's forcing out 65nm chips 2-3 months earlier than their roadmap claimed...

Who thinks we'll have K8L by May?

Don't forget, revision G is due out before H (K8L).
Some sites have suggested that revision G will include a number of enhancements over F, including out-of-order loads and an additional decoder. Of course, it may be nothing more than a simple die shrink.

Well this is around right from what we have been told, Quad Core from AMD by Mid 2007 for the server segment. At this point I doubt the existance of K8L for Dual Core, I expect AMD to release those after the initial launch of K8L on Quad Core, where they will scale the design down to meet other segements overtime.

We'll see if AMD has the 45nm process running and for production in Mid 2008.

The information in that news post actually puts Quad Core Opteron right smack into June 2007, which complies with what they have been saying, using the historic information they provided.

Intel will remain ahead of AMD for process ramps for now, the TDP target that I am hearing for Kentsfield at this time is 95W TDP, which is fairly impressive considering Conroe is 65W TDP. We will have to see how this pans out for now.

I can't wait for Intel's "Native" Quad Core Bloomfield on the 45nm process. That's gonna be fairly awesome.

So right now its mid August. That means the absolute soonest they can come to production is around December. Correct me if I'm wrong.

15 months on a major redesign.

The Opteron Tape-out to first retail sales was about 11 months. The K8L is not quite as much of a redesign from the K8, as the Opteron ( K8 ) was from the K7. So 11 months would be a safe bet to first retail of the QC Opteron K8L. The DC Athlon X2 K8L should precede the QC, but no quesses from me on how much before.

I know this is getting away from the topic a bit, but we have all seen how moving to 64 bit software really helps the k8 in general and does less for conroe (but it is not as if conroe slows down running it as some people have stated). I think the best news AMD could get right now would be vista being released and there actually being some stable drivers for the x64 version. Sure its not going to totally even things out, but they are going more for a price/performance ratio right now anyways and it seems like it would a nice liitle boost. That and my rig runs an X2 and I want to milk her for all shes got

I guess ultimately time will tell how soon we'll get it

and hope to be able to test them out when they're available

They didn't just call it quad core, they called it "Next-Generation" too...every mention I've seen about the NG chips was K8L.
