Thanks for the heads up OP. It does appear that DDR desktop RAM prices are gradually dropping. I have been looking at the list of 1GB and 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR400 PC3200 at Newegg for the past fews days since OP posted and noticed the downward trend. Here are a couple of links that list all of the brands in ascending price order. I'm not sure how the links will work for others since Newegg stores an individuals config information in cookies. You may have to modify the Newegg config to achieve the desired results.

i wish the sodimm pc2700 would drop a little. I'm a little hard pressed to buy a 1gb stick for my laptop for ~$75 when I only paid $58 for 2gb ddr-2.

Oh well.

Sorry, but I don't like to O/C the daylights out of something to get performance. Instead, I prefer to buy high performance at standard specs so I'll stick with my Corsair CAS 2 XMS chips.

I bet you get some *great* performance with 512 megs of XMS in that p4 2.4 rig... So, are those "XMS chips" you have 256x2? or 128x4???

don't thread crap if you have nothing of any value to add.

Thanks OP!
I was going to to pick up the corsair, but I didnt feel like signing up for zzf. hopefully, the newegg stuff is decent, because its replacing my kingston ram that has served me well for a year. good deal.

Has anybody seen any deals on the OCZ Gold DDR (Cas2)? I might as well match up with what I currently have.

With DDR2 going for as low as $16 per gig (AR), DDR has a long way to go.

Also, I may be wrong about this, but I've heard that DDR memory is no longer being manufactured. If this is true, the price is only going to go up as availability ebbs. So not only is DDR2 beating the pants off DDR price wise, DDR may never catch up.

Don't get me wrong, I hope it does go down, as I have two relatively memory deficient DDR systems (one 754 and one 939), but with what I'm hearing, I'm not optimistic.

I know the OP's frustration. Two of my three computers take DDR, and the DDR2 one is set for memory. I get so frustrated looking at the 4GB DDR2 for $63.56 thread!

I hate junking perfectly good computers, but maybe the time is coming to move into the PCI-E/ DDR2 era. With my luck, once I do that some other newer and brighter standard will be dominant.

This system is 4 years old but would chug along quite nicely with more ram (it can hold up to two gigs and has two available slots). The Corsair XMS' were hot stuff back then and I'd always intended to bring the memory up to at least 1 gig and maybe 2 if the price was (ha-ha) reasonable. So I was a bit disappointed to learn these are CAS 3 chips on sale. It wasn't a slam at anyone, just a difference on how to achieve higher performance levels on a system. Generally when I crap on someone on something I use the ad hominem approach. Just my $.02.

I guess the other option is to look at FSFT listings for DDR memory but even those are running $125 for 2gigs of memory.

i've been debating on switching to AM2 just because of the chip and ram prices.
