Common fallacy like most things people believe about the bible because someone told them ,and is used as one of the reasons for relative morality, especially by so called Christians who excuse/rationalize their very same actions that they condemn others for.

Agreed, there is a lot which needs to be fixed. There are different ways of expressing that which needs to be changed, though. I suspect you fall into the rational category. People like zdersw and Richard Dawkins fall into the irrational category. Did you know Dawkins actually posted on his blog that he agrees it is better to sexually molest children than it is to teach them a religion? That firmly falls into the irrational category.

Anyone arguing that the Catholic Church is fundamentally wrong is essentially saying that there was no religion representing God's will for 1000+ years.

My wife mentioned he could be the anti-Christ or false prophet, with how so many people who normally have an irrational hatred of the Catholic Church are optimistically in love with the guy.

One of the things that made me disgusted with the church was every picture you see of the hirachy was all the gold and huge palace etc.

Other, easily shown examples are people who say the priesthood is filled with pedophiles. That is obviously not true, it is simply said to cover hatred. Very precious little hate is actually rational in nature.

If someone hates the Catholic church because he values his freedom and does not want to live under Christian Sharia law, would that be a form of irrational hatred?
Why this may be true - that the preisthood isn't filled with pedophiles, but they've paid over 2 Billion in sex abuse settlements since 1950.
That speaks volumes.
