This article makes NO MENTION of an updated 37GB model. The only real reference to date was the StorageReview preview of the 74GB unit.

I'll go out on a limb and say that there will never officially be an updated 37GB version. The only way we'd know is if there's a 36GB Raptor manufactured in 2004 (i.e., post-WD740GD release) that performs much better than one made six months earlier (pre-WD740GD).

Yep, the only thing releasing a "new" 37GB Raptor would do is slash the price of existing Raptors. Wanna guess how many they still have in stock? Wanna guess how many they want to sell at the current price?

What I meant by "release" was an official PR product announcment of a "new" drive. The FDB technology will just "magically" start appearing in the 36GB with the only way to know being to look at the appropriate UPC and/or serial number. We enthusiasts will know, but the lay-person won't and thus the "old" drive prices will remain the same instead of plummeting.

It won't be officially announced, since it isn't a new product. WD hasn't officially announced any FB drives, and their 7200RPM drives have been out for months.

It's a 10,000 revolutions per 1 minute drive. I'm assuming thats where the 1 in 10,000 reference keeps coming from.
