The new deal reads like this. $199.00 SHIPPED- w/ $10 off Coupon (search the Internet for it) plus free 32MB Smart Media Memory Upgrade (with Coupon code, PM me or Uwanna for it)

I screwed up last month when I didn't jump on the Fuji Finepix 2600 deals. After searching daily for a good deal on this excellent camera for over a month I finally made the purchase.
www.amazon.com has dropped the price to $209.00 (from $229). Search the Internet for a $10 off any purchase Amazon coupon and with free shipping you total comes out $199.00. Not as good as some of the deals from last month, but the lowest you will find this camera anywhere shipped and brand new. Fuji will be releasing the 2650 camera shortly, but it uses a different type of memory and does not come with a charger or rechargable batteries.

I did the deal proper last month and I really like this camera. Only complaint is its size, which isn't really a big concern when compare to other 35 mm cameras. Its when it get compare to the latest highly portable digi cam that this camera looks so big.

Good deal. I don't know of the $10 Amazon coupon you speak of.

The camera is about the same size as a 35mm AF zoom camera.

I bought this camera, and dear lord it takes poor poor shots in the low light situations.... I know a lot of camera's are like this, but this is the worst one I've seen... I'm going for a 4MP+ camera next time with a hot shoe for an external flash....

Otherwise i think it takes spectacular shots in the daylight....

Peace...

It takes horrible shots in low light situations. And you can NOT use it with the flash off. In fact, you have to set it to use the flash at ALL TIMES. If the flash does not go off, your picture will be completely blurry. I thought mine was broken when I first saw this, but I got a 2nd one and it had the same problem. I'm NOT a big fan of this camera (my first digital), and seeing as how everyone else loves it, it leads me to conclude that digital cameras still suck.

When you say poor shots at night, is that represented when printing out the pictures, when displaying them on a PC or both? I have never owned a good camera in my life and do not consider myself and expert at all when it comes to color balance and perfection when taking a picture. As a novice, will I even recognize these indoor/nighttime flaws? Are you guys criticizing the camera based on a detailed examination of the pictures or are these flaws obvious to even the most untrained of eyes? Thanks

I agree with FishX, low light situations are bad. Overall opinion is this is a good "digital beginners" camera with quality options that are sufficient for casual use, vacations, etc. You'll definitely need to get a bigger SmartCard if you intend to print pictures, 64MB minimum. Fairly easy to use, good/quick focus and recovery, and image quality is good but not spectacular. Don't use this for critical pix like weddings without a film back-up though, some blurriness happens if you have an itchy trigger finger!

Uwanna, thanks a ton for the info! I called up Amazon customer service and they created a new order for me with the memory free of charge. I have never really shopped much from Amazon up until a few weeks ago, and I must admit that I'm quite suprised at their level of customer service and the different promotions they run. Buy.com was my online e-store of choice for several years but now it's really down to Amazon.com and Newegg...

So the new deal reads like this. $199.00 SHIPPED- w/ $10 off Coupon (search the Internet for it) plus free 32MB Smart Media Memory Upgrade (with Coupon code, PM me or Uwanna for it)

I bought this camera thru Staples last month. Took it to DisneyWorld, and the pictures (over 100) were awesome. Low light pictures were not good, but far from bad. One thing is to go easy on the zoom. Its better to limit it to 3x where its still optical. You can always view the picture closer by zooming on it after its been downloaded. Digital zoom really changes the quality!! Also picked up the SanDisk USB card reader from Staples (free after rebate) and it makes downloading a snap. I am very happy with both!!

When you turn the flash off, the camera takes longer to take a picture so if you aren't using a tripod or setting the camera down to take the picture, it will be blurry.

If you do use a tripod or just set the camera on something it will look great.

Here is a good picture taken in macro mode with the flash off in a fairly poorly lit room.
