Diligence and determination. It was far more difficult for me to stop biting my fingernails than it was to stop smoking. I'm not exaggerating.
I heard there is some type of extremely bitter and nasty tasting solution that you brush onto your fingernails that is pretty effective as a constant reminder. The problem with biting your nails, unlike smoking, it is such an unconscious habituation that you will chew three or four of your nails down to nubs before you even realize that you're doing it.
I've seen people put tape around their fingertips, too, as a constant reminder under the same idea as putting a string around your finger.
If you're so distracted you can't even keep track of what part of your body you're sticking in your mouth it might be time to stop and reasess. A symptom treated may reappear. Carefully consider the source and treat it instead.
I used to bite nails ALL THE TIME but then I got braces a few years ago and was unable too. Now that I haev them off I just can't bite my nails anymore. Even if I try I just stop.

That really is a good way to go about it. I used to bite at my nails just to (try) and keep them from snagging on stuff, but keeping them clipped all the way down for a while helped me break the habit.

there's some people out there that'll bite all the way down to their skin. so she might not have any nails to clip. I would suggest getting manicures and keep them decent looking to stop from biting.
A drop of CA (superglue) under the nail, then press down on a table firmly. I guarantee you won't bite them for a few weeks. It feels kind of funny but then again so do satellite dish collars! Repeat often as needed, about every two weeks.
I think long nails on a woman are HOT! I can't believe how few women have nice natural nails. Even TV personalities sometimes have messed up short nails... ugh!
I'm always harping at my boys to quit biting their nails. I tried to catch them when they were young, before it became a bad habit, but they're still doing it.
I let mine grow nicely and use emery on them while sitting in traffic. Gives me something to do besides grumble. I have no idea how to get out of the biting habit, but I'll be watching this topic for help for my sons, other than "scratch you butt..........."

Wouldn't work for me.. not only do I bite my nails, I bite the skin around them to the point where my fingers bleed (sometimes)... It's a nervous habit, but hey, at least I don't smoke.
I finally stopped biting my nails at the age of 24, it can be done! I stopped biting them one at a time, it sounds crazy but it worked for me. I stopped biting my thumb nail on my left hand, when that grew I stopped biting my pointer finger nail etc,etc,etc. Good luck!
