If I didn't pick such an expensive KB/M it would be much cheaper (I figure at $4600, going up an extra $60 doesn't matter much).
7970s in Crossfire perform at approximately the level of a 690 at stock levels according to Anandtech's
Bench, but the 7970s have more memory and can overclock higher.
