FIOS available in my area - any reason why should I get it?

Verizon just turned on FIOS (fiber) service where I live. I have 1.5 DSL now. I can get FIOS for $10/month more ($20 more for 15/2)

5 Mbps downstream / 2 Mbps upstream - $39.95
15 Mbps downstream / 2 Mbps upstream - $49.95

I can't think of what value there is in spending another $10 or more a month, but I thought I'd ask in case there are good reasons I'm not aware of.

The thread on dslreports.com about the FIOS rollout in Pittsburgh had people foaming at the mouth wanting to know if they were going to get it in their area. People would stop the installers on the street to ask them what they were doing and what CO they were working on! One person moved to Dormont just to be able to get FIOS once it was confirmed that area was being turned on.

I wouldn't want to go back to dialup but I was confused about what is so incredible about it that someone would move in order to get a higher speed line.

He's saying that he would use over 400GB of bandwidth a month. Which might get his account terminated.

The way it's written is 400 Gigabits per second per month.

I understand what he meant I'm just saying the wording is off

i've still only got 1.5/384 in my area while everyone has AT LEAST 3/384 or whatever with verizon dsl...i won't even bother dreaming about FIOS.

but yeah, i'd definitely get it..can you download from newsgroups at max speed?

There's no distance limit with fiber. I'm in the same boat... 1.5/384... but when they pull cables in your neighborhood, it doesn't matter how far away from the CO you are. It's just a question of whether your CO is on the to-be-installed list YET.

I on the other hand am trying to find a place were FIOS is available... and I'm moving there! But I'm going for the 30/5 plan. $200/M is a bargain, seriously.
