FiOS - Download Cap for Newsgroups

Anyone experiencing download speed caps for FiOS? I just subscribed to their 25/25 plan in NYC and wanted to download through my usenetserver account but was sad to see the max speed I was getting was 3 MB/s and change. I've talked to usenetserver about different ports and tried them all with the same result.

3MB/s = 24ish Mb/s so sounds like you are right where you need to be.

I think you are confusing bits with bytes.


25Mb is megabit which is how ISP measure their speed.

easiest way to calc your "theoretical" speed is to turn Mb into Kb:


25000Kb


Then divide by 8 because there are 8 bits in a byte (normally).


3125KB/s is your theoretical max.

I have TimeWarner and I'm constantly getting between 20Mb/s & 35Mb/s... one time Time Warner shut down half of their customers for network server line maintance and I speed tested and got 50Mb/s - I never saw that speed again after those customers came back online...

I can 20-25 but just doing the speedboost thing, it peters out after a minute or two. The highest sustained speed they offer here is 10.
