It's sad we have good prices and lower taxes on many things in the US, but certain items are far more expensive then the other side of the pond. (cellular/Internet/healthcare)
The taxation argument doesn't explain it either, we are paying (in the US) tax dollars for many Internet subsidies. Also, the land area of Europe is vast as well and EU wide prices are far cheaper than the US. It's not like they just wired up 100 Sq. miles.
It's time for competition, or community Internet initiatives.
Anyways, the Internet prices for rural areas are probably as slow/bad as in the US.
