Hmm, my FIOS 25/25 isn't feeling so well today.

Edit: Let me try DSCI corp instead of Comcast's test server

Still, not sure why my upload sucks. It sometimes reached 25Mbit/s on my wired computer, but on my wireless desktops, it never quite reaches that.

The Comcast server test results are strange. It starts out at 30Mbit/sec, then drops to 26 according to the gauge, but the chart shows it going really slow, and then after that test is done, it calculates something like 5-6Mbit/sec. Almost like Comcast is applying "PowerBoost" to their speedtest site, and it's going fast initially, and then slow.

Edit: WTH? It's now doing that with the DSCI corp server.

Edit: Comcast server, wired computer

Edit: DSCI corp server, wired computer

Edit: TowerStream server, wired computer

This is more like normal.

Another one, this time auto-selected Comcast server, wired computer

My friend on Comcast suggested the Saracuse, NJ server.

Some server in western MA

Same server, like an hour later

Why can't I get consistent speed tests? I used to always get 30/25 from my wired PC, except when my upload was like 18. But download always used to be 30.

This has been the case for the last couple of years. If you aren't in the covered area I think it just refuses to say so.

Then it should tell you based on zip, since when you call in the automated system requires entering the zip and then says 'no service in your area'.

Comcast, Boston, MA server, wireless desktop computer

Looks like I'm getting 30Mbit/sec down again.

The time here is just past midnight, maybe everyone in my apt complex is no longer using their connection. (I thought FIOS wasn't badly oversubscribed like cable is, and that wasn't supposed to be an issue?)

Manchester, NH, wireless desktop

Same server, Manchester, NH, with wired computer

Seems perfect now, after midnight.

Comcast, Boston, MA server, wired computer

Another perfect speedtest

Used to happen to me sometimes, I turned off the router and computers and reset up everything (wifi etc.) then tried again after about an hour and since then I have been getting constant speeds since then.

Here is an average for 25/25

well... that sucks... Verizon says that I need to be at least 90 days without service. I thought it was too good to be true. I guess i'll sacrifice my upload for charter's better deal/customer service.

I don't know if i'll miss my ~22mbit upload....

but I sure as hell can welcome 100mbit download!

What do you mean? Are you a current customer? Because if so, I got a chat where I admitted I was a current customer and they told me I could get the $300, and also, you probably made the mistake of telling them.... Just resign under you wife's name....

Yes , marmasatt is correct. It seems that if you are an existing, not under contract customer, you too can take get at least some kind of promo.

After I tried online a couple of times without completely checking out, the offers I started to see were about $25 more monthly than the newbie promo's. The offers that came up stated that as an existing customer, I qualified for the following pkgs. They did offer a $300 visa promo for the middle and high end pkg.
I don't know if the visa promo was offered on the lower end pkg.(for existing customers).
I caved in and chose the ultimate pkg. with 35/35. $300 visa after 90 days.
So far I see 43.13 down/ 11.06 up.
I will have to try resetting routers and do homework in networking forum.
Thanks to all for the heads up, and invaluable experiences.

yeah, but that's signing another contract, to keep my existing plan for 2 more years... all for a measly $300 bucks... not worth it imho. but I still don't get my movie premo channels!

I think they'll link the account to this specific address.

Yes, you are right about being locked in for 2 more years.
I just figured I could get a better pkg than the "essentials" for the same price.

I thought if I'm going to be paying about $110 for the 3 services anyway, I may as well get some of that back.
What I really wanted was a faster internet from the 10/2 I had. It was $10 more for me to get 35/35.
Reading the fine print tells you the Early Termination Fee is $230.
Moreover, that is reduced by $10 a month for every month that passes.
Also you can cancel in the first 30 days if you decide it's not for you.
Still seemed like a decent alternative, and it is fiber optic to the house.

I need to look at renting a cable card for a HTPC as mentioned in another thread (I think). That poster mentioned it worked better for his needs and he avoided a set top box in other rooms. Any input appreciated.

This is the key. Why not just take the $300. It's equivalent to getting almost $15 off per month off your total bill when you do the calculations. What more do you want. Go through the Amex "Share the Network" promo and you get yet another $50 off.

Don't get me wrong, I just resigned and I am expecting an absolute nightmare the first billing, lol but the bottom line is - it went through.

I just got it on Dec. 30 and this is what is I'm getting. The bad thing is my hard drive died the same day the tech guy was here. Tech guy went to put in a USB stick and my computer froze. Then I rebooted and it was having a hard time reading the drive. I rebooted and no more hard drive. It was not the techs fault the day before I was playing the new starwars game and it locked up on me. it was on it way out.

I got the new hard drive in and installed and wow this is blistering fast. I was downloading the starwars game again and first part of the download was 3.4 mb/s solid never moved from it. Then the second part of the downlaod 12 gig file. was 2.9mb/s solid. I never had anything download that fast, most I ever seen was 700k.

Sad thing is if you don't have FiOS connected to your home now, you're never going to get it. Verizon isn't building it out any more.

It's a real shame because copper can only take you so far, especially if broadband speeds in the US are attempting to stay relevant compared to other countries.

Looks like current customers can't take advantage of this unless you sign a 2 year contract. I have a cancel at any time contract and the deal I get is 109.99 for the triple play, visa card, etc.

current customer here out of contract. I called and Even with the Verizon connections Program through work it still was more $$ and no gift card.

So I just signed up as a new customer under my wifes name. I ported my number over to T-Mobile prepaid. Install is scheduled the 18th.

would love to switch to them, except with the number of tvs I have the per tv/box bs fees they have would have me lose money going to this deal.

Figured I'd give an update (from my post in SD).

The verizon guy came today to install our "new" service. We've been existing customers but I signed up under my wife's name. The tech came and we were straight up with him. He's like "so are you sure you don't want to just stick with the same service?" We explained that I tried 3 times with their moronic customer service reps. We advised that there is such a disconnect between the reps and both the techs and retentions, etc. Moreover they reap what they sew when Make people disconnect just to get the current rates that any Joe off the street will get. I really have no sympathy for them. The tech totally understood. Really nice guy. Gave us brand new equipment. Had to do a bit of rewiring but not much. While I was away at work, he reprogrammed our remote so everything is through one (DVD, 360, and cable). He set up not one, but 3 computers and made sure they all got on. He tested them with speedtest because he left it up on them. We paid for 25/25 but I'm getting 30/25 tonight. Our old email was working (which was mortal hell last time we disconnected) and he called a guy who is *allegedly* porting over our same number tomorrow morning. It was totally painless. (Edit: He did do this - we had our old number working literally the next day!) I am planning on complete anarchy my first bill - but it is what it is, as they say. Just show them your screen prints.

Again, we were existing customers, but out of contract. Did a complete disconnect and reinstall same day. Our old service is already terminated and we are up and running. (Although I sure wish the DVR for life was an option for my particular area instead of the gift card.) They've told me "no" twice now. I notice others are getting it done. Must be in the correct market? I am in RI. Thought I'd share.

That's not QUITE true. Verizon isn't expanding FIOS into any major new Metropolitan areas (for reasons I don't understand.)

But, I have FIOS all around me except my condo complex. After a bunch of paperwork with the board and so forth, we're getting fiber-optic cable into the complex, including digging up the ground for about a mile for the connections.

I just did my disconnect 2 days ago and have a reconnect tomorrow.

Yeah its moronic how you can't just switch contract or whatever. I didn't care. I did not have a dvr for life, so thats extra $15 i'm going to save.

Every state must be different, if we take the gift card, we can get the multiroom dvr for life. I rather have a monthly 15 dollar savings + free 2nd box (5 dollars) than a 200 gc.

Originaly I was on 25/15 and paying 140 after tax. Now i'm back to 89 for 2 more years.
