from a few screenshots graphics look very unimpressive, but gameplay could still be good.
the trailer doesn't give much, looks like your run-of-the-mill planet management, grid-based moving, turn based fights. generals, research, and perhaps custom units (pretty much a staple of space 4X by now)

after the last few attempts at space 4X (distant stars, endless space et all) i'm starting to think i'll never enjoy a 4X game like i enjoyed Imperium Galactica II, here's to hoping this game might make me whole again

Lol, an excellent version of this game has existed for years now. It's called the Final Frontier Mod for Civilization IV.

Hopefully it won't be another total conversion of Civ V, like Beyond Earth was.

Give me a real MOO sequel. EVERY SINGLE successor since MOO has lacked the combination of tactical ship combat and detailed ship design. I'm not going to hold my breath for this one, but they did say the key words.

I very much enjoyed the Space scenario in one of those Civ 4 expansions.

I'll have to look up this mod now.

Yes, please.

I spent so many hours playing MoO back in my college days. Restarting until you were on or next to an artifact planet, taking an early lead in technology, getting to where you could build thousands of tiny ships with big gun on each, annihilating your enemies...yeah, good times!

Totally wish someone would release a graphical-only update for MoO and MoM. Even better, launch them on mobile so I can play on my tablet. Things like the KOTOR release on Android give me hope...

EDIT: Actually, there's something kinda like this already. Go check out VEGA Conflict, available on both PC and mobile (Android and I assume iOS). The research doesn't seem as deep and there isn't exploration as such, but some features are dead on (ship design and tactical combat).

Looking at the picture it looks like they took Civ5 and changed the background to stars and the cities to planets. Guess we'll have to wait and see what it ends up being.

That is what I am thinking too. This is going to be a lot like After Earth Beyond Earth.
I am afraid we are going to see Fraxis milking Civ 5 by making a bunch of graphics mods with a few rules tweek here and there to fit the theme. My bet is we see a New World Colonization game next.

I was at pax when they showed a demo of it and it's not really similar to the civilization series other than the fact it's based in the same universe as beyond earth and use a lot of the same assets.

It's more of a starship/fleet/combat oriented game that doesn't focus much on civilization building. You get a starship fleet which goes to planets for quests, fight pirates, diplomacy with other civilizations and through questing and combat expand your influence.

Your researches are ship oriented (bigger fighter bay, better missiles, cloak technology, etc) and don't focus on civilization stuff at all.

Keep in mind that was an early alpha build so more features could've been added/removed since then.

It didn't look like a big full fledged title and based on the reviews its not really good either since it lacks depth. :|

I bought Civ 5. That was the last thing I bought from Firaxis. I went back to Civ 4.

The lack of any meaningful advertising shows just how little they think about this title. My dad didn't even know about this until I told him last week, having seen it played he almost spat out his coffee.

Civ seems to be better on even numbers, Civ 2 was better than 1 & Civ 4 was better than 3. Civ 6 will be the next one to get, followed by 8, if it lasts that long.

From what I can tell, seems the design goal was a dlc like product that can tie in with the new civ space game and as a stand alone tablet game. I've only glanced through some pc reviews, and it appears they haven't really done enough to seperate the pc version as a better experience given pc abilities.

I'll probably pick it up at a steam half off sale and expect to be happy with it at that point.
