Holy crap! I know a couple of IT guys who thought this was impossible! One of them broke up with his girlfriend for no reason over this issue.

A fire on a music stage spread into a crowd of spectators at a party Saturday night at a Taiwan water park, injuring more than 200 people, authorities said.

An accidental explosion of an unknown powder set off the fire near the stage in front of about 1,000 spectators, said Wang Wei-sheng, a liaison with the New Taipei City fire department command center.

Wang said 83 people had serious injuries and 131 others have light injuries.

Taiwan's Central News Agency reported the fire at the Formosa Water Park in New Taipei City near the island's capital was quickly brought under control.

Video showed rescue workers and bystanders carrying burned and injured people on their backs, in inflatable boats and on stretchers to get medical treatment.

CNA reported witnesses as saying the fire spread quickly after the colored powder was blown into the air.

It wasn't clear if the colored powder was part of a performance. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Dust explosion. GG shitheads. Damn near anything can combust if in the air fine enough. Saw dust, corn starch, hell, probably even powered fecal matter.

"A fire? At a SeaParks?!"

If you didn't post the story I would've thought you were joking.

WTF at the OP. Why would anyone think it would be impossible for there to be a fire at a water park? And one broke up with his girlfriend over it? Who are these insane people? There's tons of things that would be flammable at water parks, and there's tons of things that could both be floating on top of water and burn too. Plus if you read what actually happened it's not like it should really shock anyone. Sure it makes for an attention grabbing headline but damn that's some incredible display of ignorance on the part of these IT guys.

Because it is unpossible for cornstarch dust distributed in air at the proper concentration to combust at a water park.

Wow that's insane. Powdered substances be be extremely flammable. There's codes and regulations in factories on cleaning everything to avoid this. Saw mills for example generate lot of dust and it needs to be removed and cleaned out as good as possible. A motor starts to overheat or spark or w/e and you have a serious hazard on your hands. Would not expect something like this at a concert though, that's kind of random.

The color shit they're spraying all over the place is powder. It's the same stuff they use at those 'Color Runs' here in the states. As for this stuff turning into a giant fireball, I don't get it. Heat from all the stage lights? I wouldn't think this stuff would be able to ignite so easily....

It's made out of corn. When it's powdered and aerosolized and in the right concentration, it's an explosion hazard. Stage lights can be quite hot and with all the electrical equipment around, it could only take a single spark to set off a dust explosion which then turns into a fire with other nearby, flammable material.

I learned a new concept or set of words yesterday: powder explosion.

Maybe I heard of it before, but I forgot or didn't know these things were problems. Now I'm wondering how they control fires at color festivals like those in India where people throw colored corn starch at each other.
