Finally tried the 2x. They were spicy, but they didn't taste very good, especially for the amount of salt and other bad stuff in them. I don't really see these as challenge-worthy.

That's about where I ended up standing. The 2x was pretty spicy for a packaged ramen (but nothing hardcore), but something was a bit off with the flavor. I did think they were still pretty good, but I definitely preferred the original. I see the original as a good, cheap ramen I'd pick up on sale here and there. It has the guilty junk food quality that is nice to indulge in here and there. I thought I was going to like the 2x more after trying the original, but I just prefer the original. I think in my earlier post I was a bit kind to the flavor of the 2x after trying a few more packets of each. It's not necessarily bad, but the original tastes better to me. However, I can see the 2x being right inside the strike zone for someone. Hell, the original would probably be the limit of the tolerable zone for someone like my sister. To each his own, but if I saw the original on sale at the local mart, I'd probably pick a few up.

Quick google maps search finds that H Mart carries Samyang at a lower cost than Amazon if you have one near you

http://nj.hmart.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=samyang
Nice. I've got one not terribly far from me. It'll be a road trip, but I can do some hiking while I'm out that way :^)

I struck out at Wegmans. My consolation prize was a 10pack of Nong Shim(USA). I've never had the packets before. I always got the bowls. I also got my breakfast sushi. Looks like the ticket is leaving at 7:45. Early enough to beat the worst crowds, but late enough that sushi's been made.

Needed to pad an Amazon order to get free shipping, so decided to get some of these noodles.

Was seriously going to get that crazy Mad Dog No. 9 Plutonium sauce too but Tabarnak they want close to 200 bucks on Amazon.ca. So I settled for a different one that is probably going to still be pretty insane.

Bah, just admit that you wussed out. You went from 9M Scoville units to a paltry 357,000.

I don't blame ya bud, I wouldn't try that shit either.

I got prank by a few friends awhile back where they spiked the salsa with some of those super spicy hot sauces. I can't remember what they used but I remember I was rolling in a fetal position the rest of the night. Felt like there was a foot long stick with sharp ends going through my whole digestive system.

I would, but I don't feel like paying $200+ for sauce lol. At very least I'll see how I handle the 357k

My weakness with hot stuff is my teeth though, they are very sensitive to it, so I don't imagine I would do well with the 9M... but I'd still be curious to try it anyway.

Here ya go, hot as you can get and only $40.

Pure capsaicin

I also found the 9m Mad Dog for $100, still not sure if it's worth it when you can use the first one to spice up the one you already bought.

So I got the Mad Dog 357,000 sauce in the mail, decided to throw some in a stir fry. My nose is still running like crazy and my lips are on fire. I didn't even use that much, maybe like half a spoon worth. Can't wait til next time I make a spaghetti sauce.

The issue is not so much going in though... it's going to be when it comes out.

Hmm, sounds tasty.
Had some chettinand goat curry at a little hole in the wall place for lunch today, was quite fiery. One of the guys I went with was from Kolkata, he said it was too spicy for him. The other guy was from Chennai area, and he said it was perfect heat, similar to how his mom used to cook back home in the old country.

Did this a week ago. It's the kind of spice that hits you immediately and also builds up. By the last 2 bites, it was a little difficult to finish compared to the first few bites, but was totally doable. My mouth was burning a good deal for a while after finishing. Overall, it is very manageable and tasty.

I have a pack of the 2x hot which I'll try next. I'm actually a little worried on that one.

I had a bottle of Blair's Megadeath, which is something like 550K, IIRC. At the time I had a roommate and we were making about two gallons of chili. He asked if he could put some Megadeath in it and I told him he could, but just to put a little. By that he apparently thought he should use a half bottle. He ate about two spoonfuls of the chili and was literally sitting on the floor with his knees to his chest in pain. I ate the rest of it over the week.

The Carolina Reaper Sauce from here is one of the best natural (no extract) hot sauces I've eaten (and I've eaten a lot of hot sauce). It's 66% Carolina Reaper so it's got a fair kick but not so much that you can't use enough to taste the flavours rather than just the heat.

It feels like I just French kissed a dragon, but I survived. My nose is also running like crazy.

For a prepackaged product it definitely packs a punch. Glad I bought more than one pack though, it's pretty good tbh.

Used the fire noodles to make tteok-bokki for lunch. Mixed in some spicy gochujang paste, water, sugar and then added noodles, rice cakes, boiled eggs, scallions, and fish cakes. It was spicy and really good. One of the better tteok-bokki I've eaten. Will definitely make this again.

That looks delicious. After trying the original, 2x, cheese, and mala.. Mala is by far my favorite.

Necroing the thread a bit, hope I can be forgiven, but I bought a package in a Korean supermarket in February because of this thread, and only now did I finally try it, it was about to expire in a couple weeks.
I had the original, not 2X. It is quite spicy, and 2X would be a challenge for me, but given the hype I thought it would be spicier.

Someone said around here once that ramen might be the universal cheap student food. I disagree - maybe in Asia and in North America, but not universal. In fact, this is the first time I had packaged instant ramen at home, and I'm well past 20s. I didn't even have ramen at all until I was in mid 20s after I had moved to Toronto, and until now it was always in restaurants, and around here it's about $15 give or take, hardly cheap-ass food.

Instant noodle <> ramen.

Canadian college students survive on kraft mac and cheese.

The Fire Noodle is spicy but I can handle it. It's when you start adding outside spices to the noodles that it can be too spicy. I made tteok-bokki couple more times using the Fire Noodle as the base and the addition of the spicy gochujang paste can really make it too hot. Sometimes I can handle it. Other times it's too spicy and I regret eating it. My spicy hot tolerance level can vary day to day.

I found both the 2x hot and the hot variants at a local Asian store, and I decided to pick them both up.. mostly because I couldn't remember which was the right one. So far, I've tried both of them, and unsurprisingly, I do prefer the hot one over the 2x hot. With the 2x hot, I had to hold off on eating more to let my mouth "cool down" after a few minutes. (The heat really builds up after a few bites.) I never had to completely stop or anything like that, so it wasn't too bad. On the other hand, I never had to stop eating the hot variant as my mouth never felt too bad while eating it.

All in all, both of these were child's play compared to the One Chip Challenge.
