Well I'm just ranting here but i just got fired from my job after working there for 3 years. i know 3 years isnt long but im only 22 so it's one of the very few jobs that i have ever had and the longest one i have had. i moved up from the bottom to a supervisor position and the youngest supervisor at the place i worked at. I really dont want to say the place because it is an international retailer (NOT Wal-Mart) and i dont want to get in trouble, if you must know just pm me. but i feel like crap right now. im young, have many bills, i just had my b-day this past monday and xmas is tomorrow. they payed me out in cash which i thought was weird but it's only enough to cover 1.5 months. I havent told anybody yet and just use the excuse that they are cutting hours which for where i work at, this is the time of the year in which we actually cut hours because this isnt our peak season. i just feel like i got punched in the gut and it hasnt even hit me that i dont have a job any more because i wasnt expecting it. the reason why i was fired took place over a course of 2 days and i didnt steal anything or beat up any one. this place was like family to me. i spent more time there than i did at home and i put in many extra hours off the clock to make sure everything was completed. I just feel like ****** now. sorry if im wasting everybody's time but damn right before christmas, this sucks

  • Cliffs:
  • Got Fired from Job after 3 years
  • Didn't Even Expect It
  • Got Fired 2 Days Before Christmas and Haven't Told Anybody

Edit:
  • Got Fired for Insubordination and I was an Hourly Supervisor
  • I know you are all wondering where I worked at..........HOME DEPOT

Sorry to hear that... A close relative of mine was laid off as well, just one week before Christmas. And that after being one of the few engineers who actually had a clue to what's going on, putting OT, being an exemplary worker in general. The company is struggling to stay afloat, so they cut costs by laying off people.

"waist" isn't the proper spelling, which is what he's trying to show . "waste" is the proper spelling.

That sucks to hear

I was in the same boat back when I worked for Dish Network. I was working as tech support and after a certain point, if you actually care about how the system works and learn it, you don't need to follow their stupid dialog tree. I was dinged multiple times by the QA department for not following procedure (ie I skipped half of the 'diagnosing' questions and asked them the first one that would be relevant). I was at the top of my group for shortest call time and highest rate of solved problems, but since I was skipping on certain questions they eventually gave me my final notice. Multiple discussions with management about my methods, including petitioning multiple times to be elevated to a level 2 position, led nowhere. My direct manager specifically blacklisting me from promotions because I brought up the teams numbers and he didn't want to lose me didn't help me either. My last couple arguments with the managent and QA got me canned, but I had been planning to leave anyways.

You'll find a better job and laugh at the crappy place you worked at before a few months from now. Sit back, have a few 's, and find a better place for you after christmas.

Exactly. As long as you try, you only have to be unemployed for a few days. Just don't fall into the rut that many people do and take 3 weeks off before even starting to look for another job. Start pounding the pavement the day after christmas and keep looking until you have something.

If you're talking about the retail world, which is where he came from... then no... it's a horrible time of year.

In 1 week they'll start releasing their holiday help, and be totally done with them by March or so.

Restaurants are going to be slow too, as in a few days everyone will realize that they've become total fatasses and should start their 1 month long new year's resolution diets.

Firing and layoffs are two different things. Before we can completely understand your story, we need to know WHY you were fired.

You mentioned you've never stolen or beat anybody up. Did you this time? Is that what this is about?

He actually said it was for insubordination. Arguing too much with a manager or something.

He said it was insubordination. An argument with a higher up. Since he was there 3 years and in a managerial position I'm assuming it wasn't anything as stupid as "go clean the bathroom"

Yeah I work in a restaurant and we are swamped. It's because of all the shopping and amount of people in-town. It's crazy busy all the way up until midnight on new years. then dead. All is quiet on new years day. Good luck man. It's their loss not yours/ If you put in tons of solid effort and hard work, then firing you over an argument is ridiculous. They don't appreciate your hard work. You'll find some place that does. Why be loyal to assholes?

So, since they fired you, why not file for back wages for all the overtime you put in "off the clock"...Perhaps you can make a convincing argument that you were coerced into doing it that way to keep your job, (unless you were exempt salaried, in which case never mind...) One good fvcking deserves another...

I feel sorry for you, and that manager probably had it coming. But I think my mother has had the worst luck when it comes to jobs in the past 5 years.

After working for a marketing research company for almost 25 years, they promoted her to a position they knew she wouldn't like. But because she still liked the place, she stuck by it until it became too much. So she took an early retirement and started working for Beltone as a receptionist. Beltone in the area, at the time, was relatively small. She helped build up the office and gain clientel(sp?). Then an ass of a manager started to work there. Started questioning good, solid marketing strategies my mother had in place. One of the Beltone technicians there saw this and had been thinking of striking out on her own, but needed solid, reliable help. So once she talked to my mom, the both of them quit and started up their own hearing aid company. It was tough, as they had to work outside the county for a period of time. It was part of their agreement with their previous employer. So a couple of years later they could finally move into the home county and begin to whittle down Beltone's monopoly.

About 4 months into the new area, in 2002, my father passed away. A blood clot got lodged in his lungs which eventually passed onto his heart, killing him. So here is my mother, struggling to get established and heartbroken because her husband of 31 years just passed away. But she did what she always does best; dig in and take on enemy fire.

Until one day in May of 2002 she could not move her left arm.

She went to the doctor and got x-rays. Turned out she had degenrative disk failure in disks 3 and 4 along her spine that were pinching a nerve to her left arm. She needed surgery to correct this. She goes under the knife and goes through some exhaustive physical therapy. Around the first of December in 2002 she's ready to go back to work. She said that it felt wierd being back to work after so long, but that it was probably her imagination that certain things were happening between her and her boss.

2 days before Christmas I get a call from my mother crying. She had been fired. Why? Because her boss figured out a way of working without my mother for the past 5 months by bringing in temp help. No need to carry insurance and all that stuff. Just had to call in the employee's hours and that was that.

So, my mom gets back on her feet within the first week of the new year. A local vetranary(sp?) hospital is in need of a receptionist. So my mom applies and lands the job. She loves it there. She meets some great friends, gets to help out animals and generally feels good about herself. Something that was much needed after the year she had. Well, this past year she had to be let go due to a power struggle between one of my mothers equals in the company and my mom.

Now my mom is worried about getting another job. She's been on unemployment for about 2 months now. She's 62 with lots of skills, but no one wants to hire someone who, in 3 years, will probably retire. So she's stuck where she is.

Cliffs

- My mom started a company and got fired from that company after surgery.
- My mom worked at a place she loved for a long time, but got fired because of a jealous coworker.
- Your life may suck right now, but it's a whole lot better than most in this world.

File for unemployment if you can. Even if you were fired/let go, you can get unemployment some places. It will help you survive until you get another job. Just don't abuse it.
